I cant believe they went through all of that work just for a commercial. Seems kind of overkill.

That's an awful lot of effort to make a live action sequence look like pre-rendered FMV. 
 
I mean, it looks great just sort of pointless.

Well, if the guys at Screened are to be believed, then DreamWorks is going to take another crack at it...

Me and my brother watched it again yesterday before starting Halo: Reach, since it is technically a prequel to the game. I was hoping to see how it was made eventually. Yaaaay

I'm glad they are showing this, the quality of that video was fantastic.

There's so much CG, it doesn't seem like making it live-action really added much.

MS definitely threw piles a cash into the marketing of this game.

Guess a movie of this quality (if not better) would be awesome. IF! They put heart and mind into it.

Man, I wished the Halo games lived up to its commercials. They're just so good at making these.

They are one of the best at making ads.  There are few that are top notch. Case closed

One hell of a halloween costume

It's obvious that they are making these in-depth, expensive, live-action commercials because they want to prove Halo's viability as a movie project to Hollywood studios, and I've been impressed with every single one.

There's a lot of CG, but it only looks this good because it's CG attached to real-life objects.  That is always the most effective way to do things.  It's why the new Star Wars movies look so false to people.  If you have a real object, and you're tweaking it with CG, it's much more effective and "real" in subtle but significant ways.
 
I'm actually surprised how effective and realistic the Spartan armor looking in real life.  I could totally imagine watching a movie with characters wearing those suits.

Not the best making of video, but I should say IMO this is the best trailer ever made for a video-game ( and I don't even own the Reach )

Who honestly wants a Halo movie? Seriously I love Uncharted and Mass Effect and don't give a shit if they ever made a movie. 

I LOVE the books and these live action commercials they make for the games, but god dam the games are bad.

Good Lord.  I knew a lot of work went into that commercial, but I had no idea how much work went into making a 30 sec flick.  That must have cost millions.

That looks expensive.

I loved that advert for the game, the music is amazing, the events are amazing.
