The laser effects are greatly appreciated.

How is this not a premium video? It would sell millions of memberships.

As someone who worked in a video studio once upon a time and had the "proper" way of coiling cables drilled into me, this video makes me inordinately uncomfortable.

I know I'm a weirdo.

I use an almost identical technique for wrapping climbing ropes and have modified it for most of my cables as well. the only difference is that I do use the over/under method for the coil but everything else is exactly the same. Thanks for sharing, Drew and Jason!

I know some camera men who would freak out with this method. That first cable Jason was holding with the cable rolled in a circle is the only way to do it, at least to those people. The over-under technique. Very fancy stuff.

Ehhhh, as someone who works in production, I can see the merits in saving space with this method, but depending on the type of cable (length, wire gauge, connector sizes) you're potentially creating stress/break/fail points where the cable hangs on the hook, and where the curved end gets threaded through the loop. I use a similar method to this for smaller, lighter cables, like cat5 or usb cables, but for longer (20ft +) audio and video cables, I'd stick to the over-under coil.

I can't see why you wouldn't use the over under in combination with this method either, you're still making a loop, just cinching it eventually.

My dad worked in audio production for a number of years in Atlanta, and he swears by this method (and by association, I do as well). Glad to see we're not the only ones to discover the best cable-winding/cable-shortening method out there!

This is exactly how I've always wrapped all my wires. It's sooooo much easier and better and takes up way less space.

He probably shouldn't be winding a coax cable with that tight a bend radius. Great for twisted pair and such though.

I've been too literal all my life, what with using cable ties and all, but since watching this no cable in my house is safe from Lisa's husband's gravity loop ... thing.

Now to find a use for all those spare velcro cable ties.

As a sound guy, this is physically painful to watch.

Edit: Ok, after seeing that it's not used for XLR at least that's nice. I mean I do use this method for, like, my earplug headphones that I use to listen to podcasts on the bus because who even gives a fuck then. That 1/4" is marginal though.

@leinad44: I think only if you tie them up too tight. Some cables are more fragile, but for USB or CAT5 you're usually fine.

I work at a TV station in production and would totally get chewed out for wrapping a cable like this...but I can't deny the usefulness. Very tempted to introduce this method for some of our cables that hang.
