looks pretty cool, do you have to worry about the cords wearing down faster because they're more tightly coiled?

No over-under technique??

Tsk, tsk - over-under means it always unravels with no tangles!

I do the same basic thing when coiling line on a sail boat. Usually for stuff like buoys when not in use. Not necessarily with a hanging loop, but same basic idea.

I use this method for so much stuff in my daily life, even outside of work. Headphones, power adapters, mouse cables, etc. It’s also a great way to shorten long and unruly cables. Prior to the wrapping step, just pull one of the ends to the length you need and then wrap as usual. Saved a lot of clutter behind my computer.

No over-under technique??

Tsk, tsk - over-under means it always unravels with no tangles!

We still use that for super long or thick cables like XLR or SDI.

When hanging a completed Oestreicher Knot, one must make a P'CHEW sound. I believe this should be incorporated into the official documentation

I think my boss taught me this when I worked in a auto repair shop as my first job.

Called it the "Electrician's Roll"

Although that was with big extension cords and you'd do it in a loop around you elbow and back up to grab with hand, back around elbow, repeat and then finish off as Jason does.

The issue I could see people having is how the cord might stiffin up and retain that general shape with the hard curves. Same kind of annoying thing you get when you buy new cables and they won't lay out straight.

Every time I wind anything now I make a PCHEW! sound at the end. Just like the old masters used to do it.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering too. Assuming most of the cables have a recommended minimum bend radius (e.g. copper horizontal without shielding is something like 4x the cable diameter), then this would be a lot worse for longevity than the traditional method. If it doesn't have a noticeable impact, then this could be pretty handy!

He's mostly pretty right, but you need to slightly modify the last "thread" to get a secure lock when you're not hanging yo shit up on a hook, though.

(I've been mad rocking the cable winding game since the early 90s!)

I'd have to imagine that weight on one point of the the cable would make it much more difficult to hang longer (and thus heavier) cables without the wires inside breaking. Still, it's a pretty awesome wrap job for small stuff.

I work with ropes. Lots and lots of ropes. You wouldn't believe the amount of rope I see on a daily basis. On surface, underwater, it's all fair game. I've used that technique for a while now, keeps stuff tidy. Anyone know how to get a hold of CBS legal?
