Will there be another one of these? Might as well continue have him finish the game.

So great! Been trying to watch this the past few days--worth the wait!

all the bickering between Ian and Rorie was annoying

@yapapanda: I'm just guessing Vinny didn't really ever know much of what to do or where to go so he ended up just doing a bunch of the same areas over and over and leveling up a lot. I got my old roommate into Dark Souls, and he was like that. To beat it the first time, it took him almost as much time as it took me to beat it my first three times.

@yapapanda: Same for me. Made me apreciate level designs and environment cues that video games throw at you to make you learn how to play and approach levels. My favorite game of all time!

@whatisdelicious: That's pretty much exactly what happened to me in Demon's Souls, except it was Flamelurker. Stopped playing for almost six months then fired it up again, beat Flamelurker on my second try and ended up beating the game in the next week or two.

More, please. :)

And so it begins...

Dark Souls content > DOTA2 content. Thank God Brad is on vacation.

Also, cracks me up how long Vinny waits to attack an enemy. He'll take 95% of damage and take 15 minutes walking around a person trying to get a backstab (that won't happen). Makes for fun videos.

This is one of the best games to watch. I wish Rory would let it just play out though, having a guide doesn't make it less fun for everyone. Vinnie asked for help because he wanted it. It fun to see someone try to execute good advice and sometimes fail.

Good to hear all those guys laughing it up though. More please.

Dark Souls is bad at explaining things to you. Get a friend to play it for a couple of days and see how many basic concepts they dont understand. Its an unnecessary barrier that keeps some people from enjoying the game.

That being said, I got past that and between the 360 and PC versions, Ive put 150ish hours into it. Loved most of them.

Also this is my new favorite thing on GB.

My prayers have been answered! Vinny playing Dark Souls! Along with Demon's Souls BY FAR my favorite games this gen. Must have finished both about 8-9 times, but never going passed NG+++ with one char. Hope this turns into a regular thing.

"Part 01"

You know what that means...

Posted by WanderingNewbie

Hey can someone tell me if this is a continuation series or a new thing, like is there a first series where vinny is playing through the first parts of the game?

I think he played through the earlier parts on his own time a while ago, when it was new.

@yapapanda: That's absolutely right, learning to not be afraid is how you get good at the Souls games. These days when I replay either game I am two-handing my weapon 99% of the time so I'm basically forced to be good at timing rolls.

Also, I've read that heaps of new players take like 20 or 30 hours just to reach (reach, not even complete) Blighttown, which seems totally crazy to me.

I agree. I couldn't believe how adamant Rorie was about Ian not telling him anything. It got very annoying eventually, and you could tell Ian didn't appreciate it.

hahaha holy fuck the ending is so good

Posted by triviaman09

I agree that it would be more fun if Vinny actually made progress than if he just died a bunch.

Posted by bybeach

I like Rorie, but I was not surprised for Vinny to ask for help. It's a difficult game, and he did so in front of the audience. I do not think Vinny pretends to be a premier gamer, and he is actually decently good. Rorie should just relax and watch Vinny still die here and there. He can throw out suggestions if he wants, and/or let Ian be helpful. It's smart to keep the game moving actually, as long as there is nods to credit due. I appreciate where Rorie is coming from, but it is a standard best applied to oneself, if one is really trying to slog Dark Souls.

I've finally got the game loaded, looking for that Mod I think Rorie mentioned, and without having it spelled out, will be looking for some useful hints. I can see that exploration is really key here, even 'fun' though I get the impression Dark Souls exacts a price for such fun.

way better than spookin with scoops, just sayin

@ki11tank: Spookin' with Scoops is awesome. This is awesome. No need to compare.

That game is a dick.

Oh man that ending was great!

I really need to unwrap my copy of Demon's Souls and get into it one of these days.

Edited by falling_fast

just wanted to chime into say that I'm really really looking forward to the unplugged thing @rorie . best of luck.

More Vinny playing Dark Souls, please.

Posted by MrGetBonus

I need part 02.

Posted by bkbroiler

So awesome! Rorie you gotta relax a little. Ian was only giving Vinny advice because he asked for it.

Edited by Murdoc_

Wow, the first part of this video when the uber nerd was directing Vinny and sound so unimpressed by life was soul sucking.

Posted by PolygonSlayer

Ah man, this was a good one! Laughed so hard, something I really, really needed right now :)
Thanks guys, looking forward to the next one of these!

I know at this point, I'm kind of just echoing what everyone else is saying, but Rorie, try to just let Vinny ask for help when he needs it. He's clearly not trying to necessarily get better at the game or he at the very least just wants to try and familiarize himself with the controls and having someone help you tell you where everything is while you relearn the controls for a game can be pretty helpful in getting better. I'm sure you think it's funnier if he just finds out for his own and dies, but it doesn't necessarily make a good video to see someone constantly die. I'm glad Ian was there to help Vinny when he needed and I'm glad Vinny was willing to ask a lot of questions. You kept saying, "Oh, just let him learn on his own!", but maybe the way he learns isn't the same way you necessarily learn. Plus, it's friggin' Dark Souls. He's going to die a bunch anyway, whether someone is there to help him or not and it's still going to be just as funny.

Other than that, great video! This actually makes me want to go back to trying Dark Souls. It's incredibly cheap and it's easy to find nowadays so maybe I'll get it.

Great video. I have a lot of admiration for those who choose the Matt Rorie path of self-discovery, but for me the only way to play this game is with full access to help and tactics. The challenge of the exploration and combat in and of itself is more than enough to keep me highly entertained.

Lovely how Rorie gets upset at Ian telling Vinny what to do and immediately tells him what to do.

Between lan and rorie, god help anyone talking in a video with those two.

Edited by FreedomTown

Seriously, never put this Ian guy and Rorie in the same room together for future videos, between Rorie yelling spoilers everytime Ian says something, and then proceeding to spoil things himself, and Ian guiding Vinny through the game turn by turn, my head is going to explode.

Hah, so glad I watched this to the end - couldn't have ended any better.

Thank you internet troll, i'm super sure they are going to listen to you mister hardcore.

Posted by ManlyBeast

Why is Rorie so passive aggressive to Ian?

It's like he's jealous that Ian is more of a nerd than him... haha

Posted by Winterstrike

Those skeleton dogs are nasty for real.

Posted by omdata

You put that cable in backward, you wind up pregnant.

Bless you, Vinny.

That was awesome!!

One of the only games I've ever 100% completed this gen and still play it for fun. By far my favorite game this gen. Vinny, you're on one hell of a ride.

Posted by GrantHeaslip

I'm super late to this party, but I just wanted to say that I almost did a spit take during the 1:24:00 sequence. Just perfect.

i love dark souls. hope 2 is good!

I watched this before playing dark souls, and now I'm rewatching it after playing a huge chunk of dark souls.

Funniest thing to me is how scared vinny is of the bone wheels. I just aggroed them one at a time and killed them in 1 hit. Not a hard enemy at all.

Edited by MrBubbles

Watching this over again after beating the game is a little frustrating. I got through the tomb of giants pretty quickly and easily even without a lantern (on a strength build as well). And seeing vinny go through at a snails pace is kind of infuriating. Also I never really had any trouble with bonewheels in this game.
