Lord of the Rings Gets Adorably Blocky, Courtesy of Lego and TT Games

Now if they'd just put voice acting in Lego games for movies I couldn't recite by heart...

What's with all the whining about the talking? Some people clearly take their Lego video games very seriously.

I, for one, will pick this up if it has full voice acting. Haven't been interested in these games since the first Lego Star Wars.

They can talk all they wants...........First Day PURCHASE!!!!!!!!!!!!(i thinks)

can't say i've ever watched LOTR... does this make me a bad person? everyone loves Lego though!

Nooooo LEGO games are supposed to make fun of the events of the films and be silly, not be all serious recreations with LEGO graphics/art.

Strange that people are so attached to the mumbling Legos, I'm guessing TravellersTales woulda liked for every past Lego game to be fully voiced, it was just a limitation for them (mostly $). Didn't the pantomiming of scenes always feel like a compromise? As a fan of LOTR it was awesome to hear the voices. As a fan of Harry Potter I would have loved them there as well.. Don't see how it detracts from the game in any way (or spoils your sentiment towards the past games?) Can only assume the typical "gamers are afraid of change and want everything to be like everything else"

Going into this trailer I was doubtful about the ability of the devs to match the typical Lego comedic grunting and gesturing to the dramatic heft of LotR. 
 
Then I heard full voice and my curiosity was piqued. 
 
Then the Balrog burped at Gandalf just before an emotional focal point for the story and I was back to square one.

The one things I can't understand about this series is why the games never go down in price. I've never even seen the first Lego Star Wars games for less than 20 euro, and those are pretty old now. Are they really that damn popular?

just saw that this is coming out this year, OCt 26th, so hopefully it will take the first price drop in some sort of holiday sale so I can get it and play with my cousin.

This at least gets me interested again, I haven't cared about a lego game since batman. I love LOTR stuff but most/all the games they've made are trash. Count me in for around $40.

I'm so used to "LEGO Mumble voices", this seems weird to me. Even though LEGO Justice League - I mean, LEGO Batman 2 - did the "actual voice work" thing first, it's still weird. It also seems like it will limit TT's ability to generate some humor here. I mean, Lord of the Rings is pretty bleak. If they're using audio ripped from the movies, than ...yeah, I don't see how they will insert the laughs that other LEGO games have.

The monster belching as Gandalf is about to die kind of hurts me inside.

Because before the game happens the lego sets must happen, and lego didnt really have any reason to release lego lotr sets. Unitill now that the Hobbit movie(+ lego) is coming.

And LEGO didn't have the LOTR license when those other movies were coming out. I wanna say I saw a MegaBlok(?) LOTR set in a store once.

I had the exact opposite reaction. I had a feeling it would be alex, since he is a lover of cuteness, e.g the Kirby's Epic Yarn quicklook.

I would imagine that the whole movie dialogue part is yet another amazing example of defender of the Tolkien estate Christopher Tolkien, who believes in utter control. As such, he'll have allowed them the license only on the basis of them making all sequences faithful to the spirit of both books and films, therefore utterly blocking any of the great humour we've come to expect of the series.

It makes sense for the DC Superhero LEGO characters to talk because you're taking from one piece of source material. You're taking from all the DC Universe and making an original story, so having them talk doesn't take away from the whimsy of the LEGO series.

When you're just going to transfer a movie into LEGO characters, it's much more interesting when you make them talk in gibberish in a cute abridged version of the movie. That was always the appeal to things like LEGO Star Wars or Pirates Of The Caribbean. This just misses the point.

Looks a little bit more large-scale than anything they've done. Wonder if they can pull it off.

For the record, I think they're all very bland games but my brother enjoys them so whatever.

I completely agree with this. The story in the last lego games were basically only understandable by the devotees of the movie. At least someone with a vague sense of what lord of the rings is could actually play this game and hopefully understand something about the story. My hope is that the dialogue is very prevalent in the games and not just in these trailers.

Yeah, the trailer for Lego DC Univerise/Batman whatever had the same thing. I was very confused.

Looks awesome, cannot wait. The voice acting is a new thing to the LEGO games I think that is really what is setting everyone off. Once you get used to it, it's a great addition.

Will plan on renting this like the other Lego games but should at least find one LOTR game that I like with this.
