Why are they doing this? Yet another trailer that makes it look like a straight up cover shooter...

It was probably made by the same guys who did the Dragon Age marketing.

Seconded. Mass Effect 2 had the same problem as Dragon Age 2 IMO -- they dumbed down the gameplay in the name of "streamlining", and made a less interesting story with less interesting characters than the original game. It's become BioWare's modus operandi.. It was a decent game, but I've never understood all the sqeeing over ME2. It was a mediocre game at best to me. I actually got bored near the end and just wanted it over.

If the world ends on December 21, 2012, at least I have got to seen The Dark Knight Rises and have played Mass Effect 3.

Man, Mass Effect looks more and more like Modern Warfare every time I see it. It's like EA has some serious envy issues.

well if we think about it, no matter how big the citadel is, it isnt as big as a planet... nor as well defended.. also they are fighting humans.. and humans are REAAAAALLy good at fighting.

@mantasradzas: Don't forget the Citadel is a reaper trap. So not surprising it didn't hold up well.

Man people sure remember ME1 with rose coloured glasses. ME2 kept what worked (story, characters), fixed the combat, and dropped things that weren't fun (overwrought inventory and skill system). Removing or simplifying elements that are tedious or clunky is not dumbing down. You didn't need any advanced intelligence to know Sledgehammer rounds VII was better than Sledgehammer rounds VI. As for the story, again rose coloured glasses. The whole game didn't take place on Ilos or Virmire, what about the other 3/4 of the story that varied between just alright to out and out boring?

I do agree DA2 was shit. I just don't think you can draw a line between it and ME2 and declare some sort of trend.

this is the first trailer/video shown that actually get's me a little pumped for the game.  BioWare has gone downhill in quality and after the "streamlining" in ME2 and the abortion that is DA2 my hype for this plummeted.  This actually brings it back.  As it shows in-game shit instead of their borderline-false-advertising-cg bullshit movies.

You'll get no argument from me that the inventory in ME1 was poor.  That didn't mean the concept OF AN INVENTORY was flawed and that no inventory at all was the solution.   All they had to do was make a serviceable improvement to the menu system and everything would have been fine.  Did anyone really have a problem with the idea of loot in ME1?  Did anyone find loot confusing?  Has anyone played an RPG and thought, "this game would be better without items or an economy"?

I got into ME at first because I was geeking out at all the space RPG-ing despite its flaws. Then the second one came out and I liked it because it was more of an action movie than something I could take seriously but I couldn't really see it as being in the same franchise as the first. And now I'm looking at this, thinking "oh, Gears of War in space." Whatever.

I thought that about ME1 towards the end of the game after converting my millionth "Useless Krogan Heavy Armor IV" into omnigel to keep my inventory from filling up. :) And ME2 did have an economy for upgrades and pieces of armor (and fish!!), just with much fewer items than ME1. Hopefully ME3 weapon customization will be a suitable compromise for fans of both styles.

well i played them both back to back this christmas and the reveals of 1 and the sense of discovery (and fear of the reapers) was much better than 2. the systems were better in 2 and the little stories were great but the overarching narrative wasn't a patch on 1.

but then i kinda hoped the reapers wouldn't ever get to earth i liked to think they were so badass if they ever got close it was over. but then i suppose that the more you know the less scary/exciting things are so its inevitable.

I love stupid comments like this.  Neither of us said any-fucking-thing about ME1 being all that great.  Nor did we give any indication of "looking through rose-colored glasses" OTHER then saying the removal of inventory is NOT "streamlining." Which seems to be BioWares definition of it since that's how they seem to "streamline" their games.

ME1 was FAR from perfect. But it's story was far more "epic" and you felt the emotion of it far more then ANYTHING ME2 throws at you.  ME2 made combat better, and tweaked the graphics to be better.  Instead of tweaking things from ME1 that needed it, badly, they removed it.  And even if Saren was far from original he's leaps and bounds above that fucking dumbass human-reaper bullshit at the end of ME2.  Not to mention Shepards "death and resurrection" bullshit too.   At least Saren put a face on the enemy.  In ME2 we get a voice and the collectors as cannon fodder.  It's like ME1 without Saren and only fighting Geth without any purpose.

But go ahead and idiotically claim because I'm saying certain things in ME1 are better that that automatically means I'm saying it's the fucking best thing ever and I'm just looking at it through rose-colored glasses.

I could just as easily say you're just looking at ME2 as the "new shiny" and praising it simply because it appeals to the retarded boom-headshot crowd.

But whatever.

thanks for playing.

Has anybody been paying attention to ME3 lately?Or do they just assume things from these trailers? They've said numerous times that they've expanded the RPG elements from ME2, expanded skill trees, more customization options, deeper character interactions etc. And they have to display action in the trailers, I get it is a little over load, because in ME1 all they showed was Shepard in the Normady flying around space in their trailers. Now that the game is more popular they have to show more than that.

Sovereign was probably a high class Reaper.

If the Reapers need to leave someone to hang in the back , it makes sense to leave the strong one.

We're told explicitly in ME1 that Sovereign was the vanguard, the implication being that it was an elite Reaper. The tip of the spear, so-to-speak. It makes sense that the vast majority of Reapers aren't as powerful. Of course, that doesn't mean that Sovereign was the largest, most powerful Reaper either...
All of you are missing the point because Earth ain't putting up much of a defense at all and the Reapers are reaping the shit out of it.

As they should. Its about time someone destroyed it.

Your point, as well as all others in the replies, are pretty valid. I understand completely.

It's just that it feels a bit underwhelming, at least from this trailer. Reapers don't seem like the scary unstoppable force they seemed in the first or second game. Of course, maybe destroying one reaper, and shooting a baby reaper to death changed my perspective a bit.

I just hope ME3 is good!

I don't think they make waist high cover big enough for dealing with Reapers!
Does gaming really need another AT-AT knockoff?  Looks so derivative of the Scarab in Halo , I knowMass Effect is a melting pot of Sci-fi but this is ridiculous!

Remember that the Reapers have an ego the size of an entire galaxy. They have been talking themselves up since Shepard first encountered Sovereign.

Ugh, this is why I largely ignore comments on this site. Everyone's so freakin' negative. It's an action trailer. We saw less then two minutes of gameplay clearly just focused on the combat. Yet people are shouting "Bllleeehhh this isn't Mass Effect! It's Gears of War! It's all action!"

My god, It's the 3rd trailer and really the first to show actual gameplay. Quit your whining and ignorant baseless 'predictions'

So it looks like Shepard spent some time in an animus found out he was related to Desmond. and then turned his arm gizmo into a hidden blade. :) Can he stealth kill with it? :)

In ME felt more of an RPG than ME2 was, and although ME2 corrected ME  flaws it wasn't the same as the first and the story left a lot to be desired. Years later, I am looking at the trailer and the E3 demos of ME3 and it is an action adventure game. Reapers are supposed to be unstoppable alien force with advance technology but yet they seem tamed in comparison...ugh...I guess I have to wait for The Witcher 3 to get my RPG fix but at least we have Elder Scrolls V.

Looks like very limited innovations from ME2, which in and of itself isn't the end of the world however, the way they are choosing to market the game does have me somewhat concerned. It definitely seems like they are trying to go as mass market as they can. I just hope this doesn't involve watering down the game, ME2 was right where it should be any further streamlining and you're going well into "dumbing it down" territory.

It's more of an RPG than Mass Effect 2 was.  They're just really bad at showing what the fans actually want to see.
They could of shown Sheperd playing with his spaceship models and I'd be sold.
Fact is anyone that finished ME2 will play this, their just trying to appeal to a larger audience.

Why is everyone saying the reapers seem underpowered?  They're stomping around earth pretty much unopposed and we haven't seen any of them get so much as injured as far as I know.  One of them even got hit with an orbital strike and just shrugged it off.

Also, what's wrong with you people?  How is more action and improved shooting something you can complain about?  It's not like bland, clunky combat is a prerequisite for an RPG.

is this a 3rd person shooter now and not an RPG anymore?
It's more of an RPG than Mass Effect 2 was. They're just really bad at showing what the fans actually want to see.

I really hope that's the case Hatking... That trailer looks like Space COD, Im not digging it...

I like my Sci-Fi nerdy and operesque .
