I refuse to pick up this game, no matter how awesome it looks. I've lost too much of my life to Monster Hunter already.

You can tell the game is going to be brutal when even the trailer of the game mostly shows the player getting his ass kicked.

Anyone ever watch Love Hina, and if you did, did the female singers sound like Mutsumi to you? Specifically in that episode where she is two people and they sing to awaken a giant turtle? Just me?

Can you actually cultivate land? Man this game looks sick, something like an MMO but slightly better due to the fact that every monster looks like a boss encounter.

I'd really like to try this.  Not a MH fan or a Japanese person, but the weird cult-like fervor for this has me interested.  Maybe I can...discover what makes it tick.

I'm a bit confused here...
Can anyone with knowledge about this please explain to me why this series isn't HD already on the PS3, but is still on the shitty Wii?
I know that some of the best components of MH is the co-op hunting, so wouldn't it be more complicated on the Wii with the friend code bullshit?
It's not like Capcom is Nintendo exclusive or anything...

Excited to pick this up tomorrow. Though part of me feels that if I am going to play this with the classic controller and online they should have just continued development on the PS3. The current state of the Wii is going to make this a real uphill battle in North America for Capcom and the uphill battle of this being a Monster Hunter game in NA already made this a steep climb.

Looks good graphically for a Wii game though, I just think Capcom's dreams of capturing part of the Wii casual audience with this game is crazy.

It was origianally going to be developed for the PS3, however, Capcom instead decided to develop it for the WII because it was cheaper that way.

When Giant Bomb reviews this I demand that Vinny do it. Vinny likes quirky games and I think if he got into this it would lead to a proper review. From what I recall Jeff certainly does not understand this series at all, not sure about Ryan and Brad though. This is a series that requires skill to play, that's why there's no lock on targeting, and every time I see Jeff whine about this it brings my piss to a boil. XD

The game doesn't need to change, you just need to learn how to play it.

And I don't mean that in some asshole way. I had to learn how to play it right. This is a series you cannot just pick up and start playing if you never played it before. You need to do all the tutorials and look up information on the monsters, what they're weak against, what weapons work best, how each weapon works, when it's safe to use a potion, strategy while fighting, etc, etc.

People can play this series for hundreds of hours for a reason. The game offers so much depth if you're willing to invest the time.

@freshym: I doubt this will be reviewed on Giant Bomb.

It's going to be like Demon's Souls... A QL that takes a dump on the game. And no review.

Ha ha so true. But that's actually good that they put it in, so they know that new players who watch the trailer will know that it's part of the game....to get your ass kicked that is.

Actually it was because majority of the Japanese market was flooded with the Wii... Capcom decided that they'd sell the most copies on that system compared to the PS3.

Never played a MH game.
The QL went right past me.
Reading a few posts on the GameFAQ boards, a revised look at the QL and looking at the trailers has made me put down a preorder for not just the game but also for the classic controller pro.

God I wish GB would let me come into the office and play the game for their Quick Look, they have no idea what they are doing, so they will just make the game look terrible for everyone. =/ I wish they would read the tutorials and instruction books or something before they start the quick look, when they do it always turns out so much better.

Perhaps in addition to; however, development cost was a significant factor in Capcom's decision.

After some initial confusion, Capcom clarified to the Thomson Financial news service that Monster Hunter 3 is not only coming to the Wii, but will be completely exclusive to the platform. "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our MonsterHunter 3 title," Capcom managing corporate officer Katsuhiko Ichii told Thomson.

This game looks awesome from everything I've seen of it. I just don't know if I'm willing to spend money on this over other games because I don't know if I will absolutely love it or not.

It seems like it could be really cool with all the cool monster designs and the "gotta catch 'em all" Pokemon vibe. But that's all kind of ruined when the part where it's an actual game is ass.

It's an action RPG, where the difference is that instead of leveling up your character, you gain strength soley by crafting and upgrading weapons and armor with resources and drops that you collect from quests (usually in the form of carving up the body of the monster you killed).

The single-player is essentially a long tutorial, the real game is going online for co-op quests (the monsters in the online portion are such high level that four-player hunting parties are necessary).

Co-op Necessary? Not really, I've gotten through all but the last set of co-op stuff in MHFU alone.  And I've seen strategies to finish the rest. It's tough as nails but satisfying as well.

Of course co-op actually makes the game much easier, a 30-40 minute fight becomes 10-15 minutes with a proper group.

My thread about this has no staying power (as expected) so I'm posting the stream here.

It's an official Capcom Mod doing the stream so he's fairly experienced with the game.  Quality isn't great but you'll get a glimpse of all the aspects of the game.

@Rocospi:  This game uses no friend codes and uses what you on the internet say "traditional controls". So you sir and all the other nay sayers fail. Go back to your easy games and let me go wait for this game to come out tomorrow.  The real hunt is on with this game not your arrow tells you where to go and and auto aim games.

Doesn't look that bad but really finding the annoying un-funny comic relief green impy thing rather annoying compared to some radical idea like playing with someone else in the game.

Haha, that's just the offline helper you get since you can't play offline portion online. Offline is meant to ease you into the mechanics more than anything (though the final boss is unique for both offline and online. Online actually gets more bosses you'd never encounter offline since they are hard to kill.)

It's 4 player co-op online for the meat of the game.
