Yay! The first was one of my favorites of 2011. I look forward to a release date for the PC version (I'd rather have a PS3 version, sure, but the PC one ran great, looked great, and I used a 360 controller anyway).

I hate to be that guy, but does all this warrant a brand new game? I mean, this is just crying out to be some kind of expansion pack to the first game!

Oh god, I'm starting to sound like the internet, complaining about more good things when I could be killing orcs.

I've always wanted to play this game co-op, really the only thing the first game was missing. Thanks Robot Entertainment!

Does this mean that there are now 2 Orcs that must die or that Orcs must die also?

I think the enemies should be the undead, goblins, or trolls. And the title should be "Trolls/Goblins/Undead Must Die, 2".

Well now it makes sense that the first game wasn't called "All Orcs Must Die".

YES! Loved the first game and Steam for charging a mere $7 for it during their Thanksgiving sale. I feel guilty paying that price, but I'll be sure to pick up the sequel at launch.

If there are twice as many maps, more traps, co-op, etc. how much would the expansion to a $15 game cost? It's a lot of content and I'd expect $10 at the minimum, but I imagine it'll be $15 like the first one. Of course it's a PC release so if you don't like the price just wait a month and Steam will have it for $3.74. Amazon will then match it and you can use the gift card that grandma gave you because Uncle Frank suggested it and neither of them know exactly what people your age like these days. Also, socks.

Release date? Will buy it on day 1, I just hope they don't release DLC the week after.

I am willing to pay for it, just have some time between them.

Seems harsh. Orcs are people, too. Misunderstood, perhaps a little quick to upset and rip your arms off. Just speak as little as possible when you're around an Orc and you'll be fine.

Oh, and never smile.

Also, the only way to make this worthwhile is to call it Orcs Must Die Too, and include basketball minigames.

The first didn't look good enough as a single player game to invest in. Co-op might change the equation for me.

@SJSchmidt93:

I disagree. The first game was likely a bit of a gamble, so they wanted to provide the most polished experience possible to show off the game-play and prove that such a game could be successful; which it was (especially at an opening price of $15 on PC and Xbox 360 both). I know I got more than my fair share of play out of my full priced purchase.

I can't wait to get my hands on the game this weekend at PAX East!

Awesome news, personally don't care about co-op, just glad there are more Orcs to slaughter, and new traps to slaughter them with.

Damn, already? Well, that just shows how much they regret not putting co-op into the first game. They made another game instead.

Just like Torchlight!!!! /tinfoilhat

Seriously though, I imagine they had a limited budget for the first one, and putting in online co-op and making sure it works takes time and money. Orcs Must Die seemed to sell fairly well, so I imagine the dividends of its success are allowing them to put more time and money into Orcs Must Die 2, allowing them to add features like co-op.

I think I must have been playing this game in an unfun way, because at a certain point in the later levels, I just abused the shit out of the Clockwork Mace, since it instakilled nearly everything, and had pretty much the shortest reset time in the game.

The other traps were fun to use, but they took a while to reset and in a lot of cases weren't even guaranteed to kill, plus you couldn't spam out that many of them unless you got a bunch of extra money by using Coinforges.

I almost feel like each trap needs a short tutorial video to show when it is advantageous, or the different ways in which it can be used (also, a tutorial video explaining how the fuck the combo system works would help, since the first game sure as hell never explained how some of the high scores are possible).

For example, prior to this video, it never occurred to me to use Spring Traps to launch enemies into a trap higher up on the wall; the only time I used Spring Traps was to launch guys into lava or acid. Is springing guys into wall traps even cost effective? It seems like you're paying twice the cost for what is essentially one trap. It seems like it would make more sense to just build a wall trap at ground-level somewhere else in the stage.

The Xbox version under preformed below PC so badly that they not even bothering with the console version for the second game? Weird times.

Either way, can't wait to get it. A lot of people, including me, skipped the first one because of lack of co-op.

@Marz:

You may just be positively surprised. I had it l lying around for a while too,

and never felt in the right mood to try it. It is quiet addicting almost instantly.

And it's nice for in between. That means, if you manage to not just 'play ONE more level'.

The original was fun enough, but had some glaring issues (stun locking trolls, for example) and that last level was just shit. Otherwise it was relatively entertaining if not super engaging. Hopefully this one mixes things up and maybe makes your character a bit more capable when they aren't using the crossbow to get headshots.

Good. The original game is really fun, surprisingly so for someone who doesn't like Tower-Defense games.
