Preview Thing: A Preview of Shelter

Man, I really enjoyed the commentary in this. Almost meditative at one point. More of these sorts of ones, Patrick!

I really like the patchwork ground and papercraft look of this game.

The closest thing the artstyle makes me think of is Windwaker.

The minute Patrick lost one of his children, I was sold. This game has a really neat concept.

Looks like low polygons with higher texture res.

Also very nice microphone.

I'd be more into this concept if I didn't have to be a badger. Some kind of big carnivore would be preferable.

Slightly reminiscent of Okami, sans combat, perhaps? It's very organic, ambient, serene... almost spiritual. Tonally and atmospherically it harmonises with that game in my head.

Also Patrick, it would seem that you've got a knack for these solo previews/Quick Looks--especially with this peaceful, understated breed of game. It compliments your style of commentary, tone and general energy very well. I found this relaxing to watch, which typically isn't the first adjective that comes to mind when I'm consuming GB's output! There's a whole lotta melodiousness here.

I love those gentle guitar strums and badger cries. This is right up my alley. Thanks for choosing to show it off.

Also I found it to be a ton of fun when you asked 'us' a question, such as when you could hear the frog. Participating in that made me feel like a little nipper again, but not in a patronising way. And baby badgers are called cubs :)

Should have called it "Quick Look Ahead".

I think it looks like a patchwork quilt. Like everything's made of a patterned bedspread.

Wow, this looks kinda cool, but the music was FANTASTIC. I am so on board.

The music during the night section at the end reminds me of Twin Peaks. Great look at this Patrick. My heart dropped when you lost one of the babies to the hawk. What a cool premise for a game.

I propose that a Quick Look of a game that isn't out yet be called a "Quick Look Future".

This game is pretty incredible-looking, but I don't know if I want to play a game where my cute animal children get picked-off by predators and eaten (or starve to death due to my incompetence).

Patrick's not a Packer fan, but he's a Badger fan? Huh.

This looks interesting, but I can't take it when a cub gets taken. Oh, the horror!

The art style on this is really beautiful but I feel like the game could suffer from the plainness. Granted, I have bad eyesight and it's a bit low-contrast for me.

Also, every time something ate one of my babies in this game I think I would freak out. Poor baby badgers. :c

Papercraft is the visual style I'd use for this, does look interesting & a nice comparison game to Tokyo Jungle as they both take on the same ideas in somewhat different ways.

Love the idea behind this game.

Are the colours of this game really bland and greyish, or is it the video? Game looks cool though, and I'm considering a purchase when it's released.

Sure. They are adventure games, though, so it's not something I'm a big fan of. Same with the MMOs Funcom made. Owlboy and Among the Sleep could be cool when they are done!

I don't know if I'd get the game itself, but the look is really interesting. It kind of makes me think this is what a game made to look like an early 3D game would be if we had a similar trend to the resurgence of 16-bit platformers in a couple of years. Simple polys, flat shading but decent detail in the textures.

A game where you are purportedly going to protect someone and it actually reflects in the gameplay. How novel!

Aww man I would just be too upset after losing 1 cub and probably quit.

The fact that the cubs have different markings is really cool, and if you were so invested/detail oriented I could see getting attached to and even "naming" them when you play.

This seems like a pretty inventive and interesting game.

I take back what I said earlier. Just put your face in the corner of the picture. People love that, apparently, and it's enough to let me know it's original content on the site.

So I learned to never let Patrick watch after badger cubs for he will let eagles and creatures of the dark eat them.

This looks great although I'm not sure I can deal with losing a baby badger!

Patrick makes a terrible mother badger because he can't tell his children apart.

This game has left a really good impression, I can't wait to check it out for myself.

I honestly think I like Patrick's new role in the midwest than I did his old role in SF. At times I felt like he tried to hard to mesh with the other guys. Here he can just be himself and do the things that interest him, seems to fit him better.
