Possibly the best Professional Wednesdays yet!

Edited by Goldanas

I personally don't enjoy the Gamespot people; they're just not the kind of personalities I find entertaining. Are they in this?

While I'm issuing a grievance, I feel this format takes away from traditional QLs. Not that it matters, I suppose, because we just don't get too many QLs anymore anyway. That's just the format of the new site now that they've been moving into the new space for the past 2 years, and I accept that.

I still enjoy the TNTs and the UFs, but I feel that this one is just one too many scheduled live shows in the week. Preprogrammed content that's slapped together anyway is certainly easier to produce, but it's also less enjoyable to watch.

Is that Brad in the luchador mask, or am I having another stroke?

Well you'll be glad to hear that they've decided to change up the format of this show so that it'll probably be once a month instead of once a week.

Jeff's face in the promo says it all.

Ah, cool thanks, man.

I started watching it. I skipped past the first twenty minutes where they play Guacamelle! again (seriously, what's the point?) and started watching the bike thing.

It's fine, and the Gamespot guy is inoffensive (seems almost like he feels out of place with this crowd), but this would still be better served as a QL.

So STOKED for game of the month. See what I did there?

Edited by envane

heh just saw this on my youtube stream , its only 17 mins there for some reason .. musta been a slow week :p

Edited by GuardianKnux

@italianstallion: I thought for sure that the screen still for the video would have been Vinny holding all the soccer guys in the air

Edited by Rafaelfc

What a trainwreck of a show, jesus christ. I'm glad they are reigning it in for once a month (or get rid of it if we're lucky)

Edited by RubberFactory

@rafaelfc: Why the fuck would you say that. I come to Giantbomb hoping everything they do will descend into chaos. That's when their at their best.

Posted by thugg1280

a retro show each Wednesday would be cool.

I feel the same way about it kind of taking away from Quicklooks. I was waiting for a Lego City Undercover Quicklook becuase Ryan said he was going to take a look at it, then I realized their, "Quicklook" of it was basically just looking at it on the new releases show. Hopefully reducing it to once a month will mean more Quicklooks.

Patrick was quite annoying during the Motorcross Madness segment. The way he laughed at the fact that the game couldn't find an online match when the game had only been out a few hours at the time. The whole time it just sounded like he wanted no one to buy the game even tough it looked perfectly fine.

Posted by MattClassic

@brad If it makes you feel any better, I totally that was an Alex Kidd reference too. I think it's the only reference from this game that I've seen that went completely over my head.

Edited by Pudge

I'm all for less of this show if it means more of the old Premium content. Or a retro show. I love me more Giant Bomb, but I'm also glad they're open to experimenting and are willing to change things when they obviously don't work. ALTHOUGH, I would still be all for visits to the Shrink Shack in the monthly show for looks at insane obscure games. Those were the best parts of these videos.

Vinny has way too much fun with the effects.

I can't wait for some Shootmania maps actually using the new Arrow weapon to release.

Shame we're getting less of this but it makes sense. Real shame there was only one Gamespot person. Dude was pretty good, too.

Edited by Raven10

@goldanas: I feel like when they show games that they have already done quicklooks of it is kind of a waste. I like Patrick's Shrink Shack segments because those games probably wouldn't get any coverage from either site outside of this show. I also think that there are plenty of quick looks most weeks. We are entering the summer drought now so obviously there will be less quick looks when there are less games coming out.

The Age of Empires look was perfect. Also, I dug the music in Double Dragon 2, so it must have been a remix.

I didn't mind the Guacamelee thing. The problem was they only had that one game, and then after that it was the Bombcrew trying to make something out of nothing. I totally enjoyed getting a second perspective, and how (seemingly) genuinely curious Jeff was about that game. They had me fiending for those codes that other people on the stream are way too quick for me to beat just the way they were talking about it. The scope was slightly broader than a Quick Look.

That said, as an avid sports game fan that's been perpetually disappointed by the long leash game writers have given those dwindling franchises this generation (even NBA 2K), and the flip way this site constantly covers sports games, it was a bit of a bummer to see them treat so many other games with the same kind of disrespect. I mean, I totally get why some of those games, like AoE2 which I once loved, wouldn't play in a 15-3 minute format, but that Motocross game looked pretty sick for what it was. I wouldn't buy it but there's no reason to tell anyone who might be genuinely interested not to. If it were $15 or $20 I might love to own that game.

This does not seem very professional...

retro show just seems like it would be more fun to watch this was a slow show to watch.

Edited by Draxyle

I'm sad that no one on staff had an appreciation for AoEII. I think I was too young for the Starcraft phase, so AoE was everything to me. It helped fill that ten year gap between the first and second Starcraft for certain. I give an honorable mention to Age of Mythology as well; that was a fantastic evolution for the series.

At least we got a few seconds of dumb cheat codes out of it here.

And I'm kinda glad you guys are taking the show off a weekly schedule. While I've enjoyed every one of them so far, I don't want them to take too much time away from proper quicklooks and other features. I can't imagine it being easy to get stuff done with three consecutive multi-hour live shows a week. Once a month seems like a fair enough compromise.

Fuck yeah, Patrick, Pure is on of this gen's best racers and a better SSX game than last year's SSX was as far as I'm concerned. :P

Oh, the world's smaller than Skyrim.
Not interested.

Hell yes, for once I agree 100% with Patrick, that game was amazingly fun.

@patrickklepek @brad @jeff @vinny @ryan Clearly 'Game of the month club' will be your monthly where you elect a game to all play that month and discuss this month's game (spoilers welcome). Guests welcome.

East Lansing reference!

Edited by Rabbykayn

@goldanas: I agree. The Gamespot guys just do not have the personality to be on camera. That's what make the Giant Bomb crew so unique. Granted I'm not complaining about new content. The more the merrier. I just enjoy the stuff with Gamespot "writers" a lot less than the rest of the great content on this awesome website.

That lord of football segment was amazing, I was in tears during the "flying pyramid"!

Edited by Marokai

All things considered, despite a few fun moments from these shows, I'm kind of glad this is pretty much going away. Last week's was interesting, but it was exactly because there was so much built up and they got a bunch of people together. Most weeks just aren't very interesting.

And I feel like it's been said a million times since the Happy Hour was first a thing, but, a live show for the sake of a live show just kind of cannibalizes their time for other content. In some way, much of this show was just forgetting the lessons of the Happy Hour; it's a poor use of time, much of the audience here just wants to see the GB staff and not other people, and other content would be a better way to show the stuff off, etc. Quick Looks have kind of suffered since this show became a thing, and a lot of games that should've gotten better coverage just fell through the cracks.

Unprofessional Fridays is a fantastic live show, because they get the whole crew together, play something they want to show off, and talk about stuff that's on their mind. It's like watching a group of friends hang out in Jeff's bedroom or something. This Wednesday show just seemed like content for content's sake. As much as I love any GB content we can get, (and hopefully we get more varied premium content soon; I'd like more of a reason to resubscribe in a week or two) watching Jeff fumble through AoE2 for ten minutes, or Ryan haphazardly play a few minutes of Lego City Undercover isn't the most compelling stuff they've done.

Here's to hoping they get this stuff right in the future, but here's my hope: Less gathering-around-the-couch live shows, more targeted content like Random PC Game and Bradley May Cry.

By far the best episode of Professional Wednesdays.... its almost like more adding more Giantbomb and having less Gamespot makes a show better :D
