Saw Dave tweeting about this. I might pick it up seeing as I'm pretty sure it's still on sale over at gog.

Posted by Roboculus92

Oh i was wondering when this was gonna show up. Well atleast it's here now.

Between this and Gunpoint, what's with these side-scrollers with microscopic graphics lately?
This looks kinda cool though, even if the writing is god awful.

I've played about an hour or so of this and it seems pretty good so far. Waiting for them to turn on multiplayer before really getting into it. There is a demo on the main site for this and it's $5 on gog.com right now if anyone is interested.

On the steam store graphic I thought the guy looked a lot like Alex Navarro.

An non epic game? At last!

Posted by Glottery

Looks nice, but yeah, that dialog...terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible.

Posted by Fistfulofmetal

This looks rad. Gonna buy.

I picked this up last week and been having a good time with it. Using a controller with xpadder support, plays pretty nice that way.

I thought the same thing

Timely jokes like PS3 jokes! Haha!

Until watching this I had paid no attention to this game at all.

It is currently $4.99 on gog.com

Now I own it.

The dude reminds me of Alex Navarro.

pixellated penises - should there be a wiki entry on that?

Sixpenny Vigilant is my favorite band.

Edited by Kevin_Cogneto

I know exactly how people are going to react to this, because this is the internet and people don't know what they're talking about, but a shop keeper that's a "usurer" and has a big hook nose? Kind of offensive.

Bring on the predictable "bigotry-is-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder-so-actually-you-are-the-bigot" screeds, despite the fact that this is a stereotype that literally goes back over a thousand years. But no, I'm sure I'm the bigot for being aware the stereotype exists.

Posted by radioactivez0r

There is a certain "we don't actually care if you think this is funny, but we did" charm to the writing.

Urf, yea that dialogue is really rough. Referential humor is a delicate thing; it takes subtlety and a respect for the audience's intelligence to pull off effectively. When it doubt, no humor is much better than bad humor.

Excessive cursing is another pet peeve of mine. It just comes across as tacky if you're using it without restraint. Playing it in "UnEnglish" seems strangely ideal, or in any other language if none of it is vital.

The game itself looks pretty great though. Doesn't look like it even needs a story to be fun.

Posted by Stevemax

I was on the verge of purchasing this, but that unenglish option totally sold me on it!

Edited by Trevorisamazing

Can you shorten "Zeratul" to "Zera?" Are they just on good terms?

Posted by rygar8bit

the online has a bunch of different dungeons and a different story then the single player been playing it with a friend since last week this game is amazing well worth the $8 on steam

Aw I like how Vinny likes to keep his first outift too, anyone else do this in games?

Edited by Xymox

I like how that guy is like I have to pee, and the other guy is like AGAIN? It's down the corridor to the left

Like, just in case he forgot

Sixpenny vigilant, i'm dying here!

Man, the dialogue in this is sketchy. Sounds like crap I would've written back when I was in my early teens, sans all the cursing.

Edited by BaconGames

Well if the game insists on a poorly executed English translation, it might as well have a fun "bad" English translation that you can fall in love with.

Edited by Amafi

@phatmac: What was the joke there? He said one of the coins could buy a PS3. Just because Vinny and Patrick can't or won't read and went "Boom!" doesn't mean it was meant as a joke.

Posted by Video_Game_King

I feel like I've seen this game before. In fact, I'm pretty sure one of my friends showed it to me along with a billion other indie games. The only other one I can remember is Lone Survivor.

Posted by TheMasterDS

I think it looks like trash. Don't like how it calls itself a Metroidvania and uses keys which open doors to split off new areas. Seriously, you're going to have a literal key that opens a literal door? The key should be a double jump and the door should be a jump you can't make without a double jump! That's what it means to be a Metroidvania. That and being able to anticipate getting new abilities to get to new places based on the things you see which you clearly can not yet do. And of course the payoff of getting those new abilities.

Edited by EchoEcho

Wow. Just watched the first few minutes of this and I am really, um, "impressed" with the translation job on the writing. Jeebus.

Edit: Oh. that would explain it.

Edited by SaturdayNightSpecials

Alex yes, but also Eric Pope as the DM.

Played this way back when, maybe a year ago? Pretty good fun mechanically, the lighting stuff is nice but hell yeah, the dialogue is a constant drag through the mid-game slog. There used to be some really frustrating moments at the end due to invisible creatures stealing weapons - not sure if that's still true?

Posted by xite

Haha UnEnglish is so charming.

Posted by granderojo

This game's kind of cool. Funny vinny, I missed the torches just like he did for a good hour. Had to go back and get them all.

Posted by edwardt

Just to say charlie parker was a saxophone player. He is incredible.

I kinda tend to do that too. I still have that bloody white shirt you start with in Dragon's Dogma in my inventory. Even in MMO's, I just recently realized I had a bunch of level 10 gear on two of my max level characters in Star Trek Online.

I could also see if being people who grew up playing games on Amiga or Macintosh, where that style was kinda common, so that may be their nostalgic preferences, instead of trying to recreate NES style graphics like many others. It's of course also a time saver if you're part of small team, but don't want to go for the overly pixelated look.

Edited by Mento

Played this last year, it's been on Desura for a while. As others are saying (and the QL itself) the game's a pretty interesting RPG MetroidVania but the script is garbage. It also doesn't so much fall at the last hurdle as land on it in such a way that a painful medical procedure would be necessary to remove it. In other words, caveat emptor if you decide to dedicate as many hours to this game as I did just to reach that final section.
