Ready To Die For Dark Souls?

Can they pull of another Game of the Year hit, I am almost certain.

Well then.  I hope my local hospital is ready for a weekly patient.

I am hoping this game will try to kill me when I open the box.

Hmmm well the odds of this not being my game of the year 2011 are getting slimmer by the second.

I agree with the fellows about not turning the next souls game into super meat boy, but on the flip side I can't wait to see what the game developers can throw at us. If they can turn us into master survivalists rather than just pure reflex experts, then this will be glorious.

I was a little afraid that hard games were going to become relics of the past until Demons' Souls and Super Meat Boy came out. They both turned out to be amazing games, so I've got my hopes up for Dark Souls, a game that might actually require some adrenaline.

Can I get a  "Hell yeah!" in here?!?

Either way I think Demons Souls was overrated largely because  people felt superior for forcing themselves to play through a game which most others didn't want to waste any actual time on. It was incredibly slow and plodding.

Then you have people going sour grapes instead of bettering themselves at a game that doesn't play itself or being adult and dropping the game.

Demon Souls was a challenging game, no doubt, but there were also a lot of ways to beat certain encounters fairly easy. My biggest difficulties came from like 4-2 and than world 5 (just due to the poison mechanic).

Once you learned the game (or played a caster) it wasn't as hard as some people made it out to be.

I guess people thought the original Demon's Souls was impossibly hard because most games nowadays hold people by the hand. Not saying it wasn't a difficult game, but the difficulty was like an old(er) game, in a modern context. 

I'm on board for this game as long as they didn't make it harder. The difficulty level of the original was more than enough for me.

I wouldn't worry about Dark Souls being too hard. Namco wants you back alive. They need your business.

Na, not entirely. I enjoyed me some Demon's Souls simply because of the one-the-fly tactical decision making when it came to actually surviving a level. Add the whole social dynamic and you have a damn good game, but a very niche damn good game.

Happier about this the more I see of it.

@Ventilaator: Best argument of concern I've seen about Dark Souls yet. That's exactly what I'm worried about too. And it probably will ring true. Demon's Souls is one of the best games in the last decade, and I doubt they will improve on the formula. But, I would love to be proven wrong. Here's to hoping it will be great anyway.
