The wiki page here on Giant Bomb has a bit of a summary, but basically it's a JRPG. Combat is real-time, not strictly turn based, although there are action bars for the characters, like the Final Fantasy games had for a while.

Your characters can summon avatar creatures that can help in combat (sort of like the Drippy character you see following the main character in the video).

I can't wait for this game to come out.

This will probably be my final console software purchase of the generation.

I must have played too much Saints Row because that "wand" totally looks like a black Penetrator to me, and it made me look at Ni No Kuni in a whole new light...

This is kind of depressing after watching a bunch of the Amnesia Fortnight stuff. Game looks great though!

I wonder.. could the ending be that it's impossible to save his mother from death? Maybe the purpose of the adventure was to help accept it. It might be sad, but it would be nice for a story like this to go further and have some depth to it.

I've tried the demo and the fighting system is really on the same level of Eternal Sonata, rather than something exciting like Tales of Graces F or Star Ocean. I'll be playing it for story and being cute rather than combat.

Demos are sometimes not very great gauges of what's to come. A lot of people thought the Valkyria Chronicles demo sucked, but the actual game was fantastic.

I think it's fantastic that they've created this with children in mind as well.

This game might end up being a fond childhood memory of this young kid who get to play a character he can identify with, rather than an adult role model like... Kratos... or.. er.. Tommy Vercetti.

Sure, there have been plenty of games where a young boy sets out to save the world through the power of friendship, but for the story purpose of saving his mother, it seems like it can be a very personal experience and I think the art of studio Ghibli and the talent of Level-5 will nail it.

Played the demo and now I'm even more hyped for this game, pre ordered the wizard edition. I'm a huge Studio Ghibli fan so it feels like controlling one of their films, art and soundtrack are top notch

I think people saying this game has a good art style are crazy.
It's too low-poly and isn't doing anything interesting animation-wise to make it actually look like a frame-by-frame 2D anime... it just looks like an average anime videogame, and having genuine anime scenes spliced in there just EMPHASIZE the gap.
I think even- like Valkyria Chronicles or the Naruto games looked more like an authentic cartoon than this. Catherine actually did a really good job, this looks years behind.
 
EDIT-- The backgrounds are much better actually, maybe it's just the characters letting it down.

Preordered that awesome Wizard Edition, but damn that thing was impossible to find.

I love me some Level-5. Dragon Quest 8 and Dark Cloud are some of the best games I've played ever. Hoping this would be just as close an experience as those.

This really looks like a 10/10 game to me. It seems like such an amazing mixture of story and RPG elements, among an amazing art style and a soundtrack by effing Joe Hisaishi. Pre-ordered and can't wait.
