I don't know much about MMOs, having never played one, but it seems like the pacing of STO's narrative is a bit off.  The Borg are arguably the ultimate bad-guy in Star Trek, but STO is throwing them at you from the get-go, making them seem pretty inconsequential.

I would think they'd want to save any significant Borg presence for later and make it a big deal.  Let Romulans, Klingons and a few Jem'Hadar or Cardassians be the bad guys and then ramp up to the first re-appearance of the Borg.

@Hashbrowns: STO does some things that a lot of other MMO's don't, i.e. have a real story line and have hte Massively Multiplayer part be scaled down a little bit. However, I completely agree that they are throwing the story out a little fast, without much climax at all. Unless they have a lot of these episodes planned, I find it hard to believe that this game will have a very long life span. But hey, with the lifetime subscription I guess some people are going to find out :p

Nope, it's just a really long mission. A mission that you have to be the highest level to start, if I remember correctly (But don't quote me on the second part).

Robert Smith can just turn into a giant monster and destroy the Borg, like he did to Mecha Streisand.

For those wondering, STO has improved A LOT since launch, especially after the patch/season 1 update a couple days ago. I'm not a big Star Trek fan, nor have I have ever played an MMO before (despite gaming for 15+ years), and I'm having a blast.

@Myrmidon: I believe you have to be a 45 to do these missions (level cap is 50). I'm a 44 now so I can't quite comment on them, but I've heard good things. :)

You're actually not allowed to even enter borg space until you've cleared the Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians/Jem'Hadars.  The Transward Conduit is offline until you finish up all the other main story quests.

Special Task Force missions is basically raid content, so yeah.

Voyager pretty much destroyed the whole concept of the Borg and since then they've been pretty inconsequential.. thrown in whenever the shows need better ratings.  The games often have a focus on them, and always completely fail to to portray them correctly, usually using them as mindless Frankenstien-esque drones.

So yeah, I'd have joined you in complaining here but I'm long since past caring about the Borg.

Also, this game is utter drek.  It's clear the developers care little for the liscence and have put minimal effort into the game.

I'm going out on a limb and say 'No' but that doesn't matter because he can still boot it up in two years or whenever he wants too.

Wholeheartedly and based on what you've said, you're probably gonna crap your pants when you play a better MMO.  STO is one of the worst, popularly marketed MMOs I've played, and I've played a ton of them.  Buy World of Warcraft.  You'll wonder what you were thinking playing STO in the first place.

I want to clarify that I mean all of what I said based on your mentioning that you are not a big Star Trek fan.  If a big Star Trek fan has said what you did, I probably wouldn't have commented.  It's a different game that way.  Perhaps, you have a stellar group of people you know in game as well.  Could be any number of things, I suppose, but, again, generally speaking, STO is not an example of a good MMO.

If you're having a great time with STO, that's awesome.  Keep playing it while trying other options.  Trust me on that.

Remember Jeff, you paid for more than 18 months worth, so you gotta do more than 18 months minimum.

I'm sure those 18 months will be pure fun though...

I don't think it's even possible to compare WoW and STO. I mean, WoW is an open-world in a massive server with other people, where STO is almost whole-heartedly an instance-based MMO.

At one point the borg use to be bad ass. It's sad to see how far they've fallen.

@Legend:  Given the somewhat ridiculous difficulty of the Borg Queen (largely due to the fact that no one bothered to consider putting points into their ground skills) and the rather bland drops, that first Special Task Force mission really isn't worth anyone's time and effort.

The PC I planned to play STO on died & I've yet to fix it.  I've been looking
at buying a house so all my game time has been put on hold, including
fixing my damn PC. :(

EDIT:  Need to get my Captain Shepherd over on that Special Task Force.  In the Supplement, he saved Eden Prime from the Geth, among other things.

There's a Star Trek MMO? Surely noone from the GB staff would ever buy a subscription to said game, let alone a LIFETIME of it?
