Why do I keep seeing these things about Star Trek Online on Giant Bomb. This shouldn't even be considered news because no one should give a shit about this game. I seriously wanna know if there are even ten people in the GB community that are actually excited for this game, while at the same time thinking it is actually going to be good.

I'm sure they have data of video views & things that make these star trek online vids worthwhile. They wouldn't be posting them if no-one has been watching them. I've been enjoying them, because I'm a big star trek nerd. I'm sure there are other star trek fans who've been interested in them too.

Yeah, I'm not that into the Star Trek universe and thats probably part of the reason that I think this isn't worthy of news coverage. I just feel like Star Trek's time has come and gone even with the new movie that was pretty good. But the real reason I don't like seeing all of the news about this is because I feel like the game is going to be very second rate, but who knows.

@DRE7777: I wouldn't exactly call this news coverage, they post trailers daily just to push more content out there. Quality of the games doesn't really factor into this. 
 
That said, I'm a huge Trek fan, love MMO's, and I have zero interest in this game. I can imagine it's very hard to make a good Star Trek game. The shows and movies, at the core, is about discovery and diplomacy. The game playing masses, in general, want pew-pew-pew and the two just don't really mix that well.

I'm glad GB posted the article, I like Star Trek and so do many others. I don't think the news stories on this site are posted for one individual favorite types of games, but rather for all. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...Spock.

I'm looking forward to this and/or the Star Wars Old Republic MMO as I like the MMO game format but sick of the Wow/Guild Wars/Aion/Runes of Magic fantasy setting. If the MMO of either of these is a well built game I'm sure that there's people out there & on GB who will gladly go past the demo/trial to give it a whirl for a while.

Well I speak the truth and the game will fail on Feb the 1st. The space combat is horrible, the combat is instance to fuck, it doesn't even feel like and MMO and the ground combat sucks. If you like Space games then theres no point playing this game over EVE Online and if you like having an avatar then play WoW or wait for SWTOR which will have both.

star trek's time has come and gone? it's more popular now than it's been in 15 years, and it's never been unpopular or irrelevant in its history. that's why it's endured for so long. this is like saying james bond's time has passed a month after the release of casino royale. a dumb thing to say in general, and said at the dumbest possible time.
this game will live or die primarily on its merits just like every mmo in the past. if it doesn't provide a uniquely enjoyable experience that takes advantage of its IP, then it'll go the way of the matrix online. but no one should take its success or failure as an accurate indication of the health of star trek as a property.

I can't wait.  Instead of sending my ship out to explore the stars, some jerk will start a chat war with me about why the Klingons have bumpy foreheads, and that my particular alien race is not canon because Gene Roddenberry had written on a napkin that no species name can truly start with 'W'

Actually. Open beta just started, so there's a pretty good chance he's telling the truth about him playing it. Although what he thinks about it is entirely his opinion. If that clashes with yours then try not to feed him.
