The Developers of Dust 514 Welcome You to New Eden

Anyone know what the 514 stands for? Or is it just adding extra numbers to differentiate from the other two Dust games? (From Dust & Dust: An Elysian Tail). Because it reminds me of bands like Blink 182 & Sum 41.

Planetside has always had my loyalty, but I'll probably check this out. Eve is an interesting game, but I just don't have the time to devote to it.

And I just realized that both Dust 514 and Planetside 2 are going to be under the Sony umbrella. How shrewd of them to corner the MMOFPS market in it's infancy. Lets hope they deliver.

Sadly, Microsoft wouldn't give them the freedom they needed to get the connectivity between DUST and EVE, whereas Sony was more than willing to accommodate them. It sucks, but what can you do. Maybe if Microsoft makes some changes to their policies with the next system we could see it ported over. I happen to have a PS3, but I don't particularly care for the controller for FPS gaming. Even more damning is the fact that nobody else I know who would be interested in DUST even owns a PS3.

They went into detail about a lot of that stuff during the last EVE Fanfest, and you can find videos of the panels on their YouTube page if you're interested. You'll specifically want to check under the EVE Online Fanfest 2012 playlist.

The last i checked eve was a PC game, who in the world will play this on the ps3 exactly. It is surely not going to make them much money in the end.

I hope this turns out to be really cool.

have not played eve for years and dont intend to go back to it.

I was exited about dust 514 until they said it was only PS3 so no dont really care would have played it on PC and proberly would have gotten into eve again... o well there loss

Don't know how interested I can be in this with Planetside 2 forthcoming. They seem to scratch similar itches, and I'm almost certain that game will be great.

Now I only own a PS3, so this will be great for me, but I really have to hope it gets ported back to the PC after a little while. I just don't think there's enough PS3 users who'll know about this game to keep the community live enough. Especially if they need to interact with a densely populated MMO.

I know this thing is completely unrelated, but I wonder if this is sort of Sony's "replacement" for a console port of Planetside 2? I mean, they're both persistent MMOFPS'. I also wonder how Dust will remain profitable as a F2P game. Don't get me wrong - it's awesome to see more F2P on PS3. But no one has mentioned microtransactions yet, so...where's the money coming from to pay for this?

The game seems neat. And I think it's admirable that CCP wanted to bring the EVE experience to consoles with different gameplay (because they're right; I'm interested in all the stories about EVE but couldn't give less fucks about the gameplay). But I really don't see a reason to play this instead of something like, say, Section 8 Prejudice. A persistent shooter seems like a chore, or a job. Why would people do that when they could just pop into a match in another shooter, play, and leave?

Good luck to 'em though. This could be a huge success or an interesting failure. I look forward to seeing which one.

I've always heard rumors of this games existence or one with a similar idea fighting ground battles as an extension of an over arching strategy game. Love the idea

They are going to have to very careful with this, I mean if an EVE player isn't interacting with the dust players but is detrimentally affected by the performance of dust players they are going to be pissed, and there is also the fact that in dust if all the assets are purchased by the player that if something goes wrong like server lag or players utilising hacks or exploits then the loss will be annoying.

It was planned for Xbox at some point due to the fear of Sony treating Planetside better then Dust514, Sony convinced them that wouldn't be the case.

I'm really hoping that they can pull this off!

Well most of the time not spending money is better than spending money.

Man I've been jacked about this game since the first time I heard about it. If they pull it off, this could steal countless hours of my life.

This is such a smart concept, I really hope it works, also I better fix my YLOD.

Having it connected to EVE Online is a smart move, as there's sure to be a crowd continually playing that game and it can affect the Universe means that there will be an advantage to continue playing. . Sony making it a PS3 exclusive was smart to. Could be interesting.

ive got a few friends who play EVE Online, but i have no interest in it at the moment, maybe if the developers added cockpit views for the ships id be swayed, but dust 514 is the reason ive brought a PS3 and its great that soon i can play in game with friends! i tend to buy games that i love and will enjoy, and not be a sheep and buy games just because friends do, so this game is going to be a god send!

Am I the only person to be left utterly confused and baffled at the amount of contradiction on that post?

Also there are no cockpits in EVE ships, noob.

Don't have a PS3 so I am sticking with Planetside 2.

Seriously? I doubt it would be an MMO on 360 considering Microsoft's policies. That other game that was released on both systems got turned into an RPG on the 360 version.

It would be interesting to see what proportion of EVE players are European based and with the Ps3 being the leading console there now I think the install base is enough to support this.
