The Head of the Flight Club Receives a Curious Package

Tony is now a business man.

I'm stoked to see who the new people are! I'm not stoked for inevitable hate that will come from this community before the new people can get comfortable with their positions, though. I really hope they hired a woman for the team. I know that "gaming sausage fest" has always kind of been "the thing" about GB, but I don't see how mixing it up will hurt anything.

The new Mac Pro is certainly faster than the older machines, but it isn't any faster than a PC. After all, Macs are just Intel PC's that run a different OS now.

If budget is not a concern, you can build a faster PC than the Mac Pro.

They only offer single CPU configurations (up to 12-core) and dual GPUs. (which are rebranded consumer cards, not true workstation-class ones with ECC memory)

You can build a PC with multiple 15-core CPUs and are not limited to two GPUs.

Of course, you won't find PC hardware in that class in a case anything like the size of the Mac Pro. PC parts are modular, whereas the Mac Pro's internals are custom to that machine.

But put it in a tower with decent cooling hardware (e.g. Noctua) and it will be cooler and quieter under load.

@pop: People I know with a standing desk either can move them up and down or have a second desk to sit at. The best thing to do is to change positions over the day.

@jimbozu: I propose two streams. One with Drew playing some military training sim he shouldn't have access to. And another with Jeff sitting in the quicklook room with the lights off talking softly about wrestling or something.

Twist: That control table they can take out of the control room is with Jeff and he will sometimes push random buttons to mix things up.

Of all the Asylum Films, I think Atlantic Rim wasn't THAT bad. It was god awful, but compared to Transmorphers, it was watchable at least. Favorite has to be Android Cop. All bad, but that one is at least decent in a B-movie sense.

Oh really? Hmmm didn't know that...

When Drew was talking about moving his desk and all that stuff it took me a REALLY long time to realize that Vinny isn't just out on vacation - he's not actually coming back and Drew is left all alone in the video/editing department..and that actually really bummed me out.

Year of the plane

I'm assuming that poster was made from the perspective of an enthusiast of aircraft, not films. Some of those movie choices and facts seem pretty dubious.

@megasoum: The plane in Broken arrow was a fictional bomber called the B3.

That poster list the wrong Avengers movie, it should be the 60s British Avengers TV show, not the Marvel Comic movie :P

I don't think I could stand at a standing desk. How do you not lock your knees? Cause when I stand for a number of hours my knees get locked and lose circulation in my feet and I get light headed. Do you keep your knees bent all the time? What do you do with your legs?

It's kinda strange that the two most senior editors on the team (Jeff and Brad) will be the only ones who don't have a "cubicle" to themselves. But I guess that's what they're used to. I actually like @heavyplay's idea: take the opportunity with so much changeover happening to rearrange the office. It'll freshen things up a bit and solve the issue that it'd always seem strange for someone to move into Ryan's old desk spot.

Just got my new Mac Pro, wondered if GB would go with FCP X or something else. Would be interested to hear more about Drew and Vinny's process these days.

@crazybagman: sorry to single that person out; there's been quite a bit of negativity and lack of faith here lately, though. i also get a distinct impression that some people think vinny leaving was avoidable and these changes are some sort of self-sabotage. i just like to stay positive and think this is the start of something new and great.

anyway i second the kudos for the amount of content they're putting out, in spite of the growing pains.

It's probably too much effort, but I always thought that they should have just re-arranged the tables when Ryan passed, as it would be weird to have someone else sitting in his seat. And then Patrick and Sara left and it was already looking a bit empty for a while now. Maybe find some space for that old flea infested couch. Anyway, should have some new people moving in soon so it won't look that deserted for too long.

It kind of bothers me that the Wikipedia page for Atlantic Rim doesn't say something along the lines of, "hey, this was made in an obvious attempt to ride the success of that movie you actually want to see, and given a similar name to hopefully deceive uninformed family members buying gifts!"
