makes exploring the world far less fun

So what? Don't shit on them for doing something that is good.
Only someone who doesn't plan on playing the game would do that.
And the only people who don't plan on playing this game are the ones who are stuck with cheap current-gen consoles.

I do hope the quest npcs don't travel around too much.
The quest npcs in the first game tend not to stick around the place the 'quest tracker' points to =/

Had to use a wiki to figure out where Triss was most of the time.

Reminds me of..... I hate to say it, Oblivion. Don't get me wrong, it looks a whole hell of a lot better than Oblivion - but the "NPCs have their own lives" claim is strongly associated, in my mind, with Oblivion. Hopefully Witcher 2's NPCs won't be as... em, eccentric has Oblivion's NPC's whose behavioural AI was comical at best.... game breaking at worst.

Well see how it turns out. I have already bought the game... so we'll see.

Looks nice, though this sort of thing never impresses me, since the only real difference between this way and having npc's standing around constantly is that they all go to sleep at the exact same time and then go back to their spots at the same time in the morning. That always bothers me.

I would love to see them take this 'living world' a level further and add some more randomization to it, so maybe a man decides to go fishing in the afternoon or something. I am confidant those women get up, and gossip in the market until bed time, every single day. That drives me crazy.

I don't really care for the video, but hypeity hypeity hype!
"Living world" is more about immersion than realism, and I'm cool with that, but I don't think most people will notice. I know I probably won't.

FYI: Witcher 1 is $5 on GoG.com now. Might as well give it a try and figure out whether you like it if you haven't already.

I played the original and loved it from start to where I got upto before my pc went and took a hardware dive in the deep oceans of broke town.

3 or so years on I'm playing it again now to hopefully complete it this time and loving it all over again. :-)

And I didn't even know that The witcher 2 was almost out, CDProjeckt thanks for giving us that RPG that does what DA 2 failed to do, which is; give us an RPG that has some continuity and a story that makes sense in it's own right.

Anyway, it's cool of CD Projekt to try, but this is a very ambitious idea that probably won't have much payoff for 99% of gamers. I don't see how random NPCs really effect the player experience, y'know? The best "Living World" is still Majora's Mask imho, considering that you could mess with literally every person's life over those 3 days. Especially if you wanted that Fierce Deity mask. Anyone who went after that baby knows just how deep the rabbit hole goes in Majora's Mask; every person in Clock Town has a story. And more importantly, it's something you can change and that will, in turn, affect you if you mess with it. Will the Witcher 2's NPCs do that? Or will it just have elf girls talking about shoes who have a bunch of a shoes in their house?

The game looks cool, don't get me wrong. I just don't see much worthwhile to it's "Living World" and NPC routines from this video.

Man, I loved the Witcher. Slow start, but totally worth it in the long run. One of the most immersive games I ever played, somehow, it's hard to explain.
And this also looks pretty rad.

And it looks like CDPR is making the RPG we all wanted Dragon Age 2 to be. Funny how that works out. :p

Nice stuff, but none of this is revolutionary and/or dependent on currentgen tech. Games like Gothic, Outcast and even the otherwise completely lifeless Elder Scrolls titles did this years ago. It adds to the immersion, sure, but as a gameplay feature I'm not sure how meaningful it really is.

"Every single npc lives its own life." Laying it on thick, I see. It does look like they put quite some work into detail, giving them three instead of one repetitious cycle, with some breaks in those three, to make it feel like six. The game looks great either way. No need to Molyneux it up.

But can I screw with the living world and turn the main character into a sociopath? Can I break into buildings and set fires at night?

I love the little touches like seeing the butcher take a break. Reminds me of playing GTA4 and seeing some Burger-Shot employees taking a smoke break. Of course, my reaction to this was to hurl a Molotov-Cocktail at them while yelling "SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU!"

I want developers to give me a rich, living world so I can break it.
