People will hate me for this, but I think st is totally cheesy to have Vader, Solo, Luke, Leia, or any of the main characters show up in these games.

That would be like playing Call of Duty in a WW 2 map where you bump into General George S. Patton, he pulls a mother of pearl pistol out of his belt to shoot at you. F_ck that, we all know that woudl never happen....Patton/Vader/Caesar would be surrounded by 20 people with weapons...you'd never even see their faces.

A single soldier also can't call in personal helicopters and drone strikes when he gets 7 kills. What you described would be great in the same super-stupid way everything else about those games is over the top.

Also, those characters are this game's version of a killstreak award anyway. Do really well and you get to fuck shit up as a Jedi for a little while. These things aren't canon, they were never meant to be, so stop being a big babby and enjoy the dumb "what if" factor.

I don't know why this is getting the reaction it is. Not that many people even play large scale multiplayer shooters. This game is just acting like a lightning rod for those people or something, because they're not popular in my mind and nothing is changing that.

I am in.

Posted by EvanSnicks

I hate anything popular and that other people are excited for.........can I be in the cool kid club now? Good grief there's a lot of negativity in here.

I'm sure it's going to be great, but I just can't get hyped for non-gameplay trailers

Posted by NTM

I like a lot of Star Wars games, but Battlefront was never one I took an interest in. This looks like Battlefield meets Star Wars, for obvious reasons, and that might be pretty cool, but I can't say it has my interest to a large degree.

Posted by Alwaysrun

Good luck playing that on next-gen consoles. Strap in kids it's gonna be long load times and big disappointments all around. EA it's in the game!

Posted by mattchops

I'd watch that movie

Edited by soundlug

I understand why they did reveal a no-gameplay trailer (they revealed in the middle of Star Wars Celebration with many non gaming afficionados watching) but is truly difficult getting hyped by it. It feels like EA is always insecure in showing that they are a video game makers than some sort of leader of popular and media enterteiment.

Hell, I remember when the reveal of Star Wars kniect also ended with trying to get people hyped about Darth Vader beginning to fight someone as a big feature only able to be done now.

Stay on target....

Pretty impressive in-game cinematics. The cut scenes should look pretty good. I'm excited, but don't count me on board until I see some actual gameplay. Hopefully at E3 2015.

Posted by Jedo

And to be able to play this you will need to borrow a supercomputer directly from Microsoft.

Posted by Gimbal_Lock

" In-engine footage" doesn't mean anything anymore and I'm glad that the GiantBomb community is wise enough to pick up on that. That said, this thing must have taken a million man-hours. At the very least, the game will have high production value. It's a shame that they didn't pour those million man-hours into the game itself though.

@larrydavis: Actually new Battlefront is canon. Obviously not every battles outcome but if they say there was a battle with Vader there it is canon.

Being cautious and skeptic about this looking as good and running well? you're 100% right we will see at E3 how good this actually looks running. As most people have said it probably won't look as good on consoles but PC should be close (besides the obvious downgrade you get to animations and what not). All this is just sequences done in frostbite with actual game assets rendered at a ridiculously high resolution with probably some editing help.

Shitting on this 7 months before its launched and complaining about how they didn't do a hardcore gameplay demo at a mostly main stream casual Star Wars events that corresponded with Episode 7 major reveal? You have no clue how game development and game marketing works. Look, I know it sucks that this wasn't actual gameplay (I want to see this game actually running!), but getting E3 builds is really time consuming and hard, and having something 2 months earlier would absolutely kill development time on the actual game that is coming out in November (E3 demos already destroy precious dev time but they are in a sense a necessary evil).

I think its shitty that SP is gonna be potato and it doesn't have space battles like BattleFront2, but newsflash! making games on next gen is time consuming and hard (hence all the delays). I rather they have a solid base for this one and build on it for the next game. Ideally they would take another year and have all those features in but lets be honest this game needs to ship close to the movie for a whole list of reasons.

Nailed it with the graphics. Let's see how the gameplay is. I'm in so far.

What idiot would drive an ATAT into a dense forest.

Posted by CDUB901

Man, I'm really confused.

I thought fans of the Battlefront games wanted another one. Like REALLY wanted another one. But all I'm seeing here is absolute negativity like you wish EA would just cancel the game and never speak of it again.

Gamers are sometimes a really weird breed of humans.

This looks promising, we shall see what comes of it.

Fun teaser. My excitement will depend on seeing actual gameplay for consoles which will obviously be a departure from what is shown here. Bring on E3!

Gameplay?

Pls sir, I want some gameplay.

Just imagine Battlefield 3 and 4. No teamwork. Just a bunch of headless chickens running around blowing shit up and shooting guns. Now instead of modern military weapons imagine them with laser beams. There you go.

Sounds good to me.
I'm just sick of hearing the same incredibly played out Star Wars music they've been using for nearly 40 years now. It's iconic, yeah, but lord have mercy am I sick of hearing it.

I sincerely hope this is good, in a Battlefield, but not quite the same as Battlefield kind of way.

Posted by wumbo3000

I'm getting a Killzone 2 vibe from this trailer. It almost looks too good to be true.

Posted by thefonzie22

this game is in engine as much as watchdogs was a few years ago at e3 and that e3 killzone 2 trailer was also that game is not coming out this year expect it to get pushed.

So much cynicism in here. Gamers really are impossible to please.

It's an EA game, and on top of that I think people are just done with Star Wars. I know I am. Gonna see the new movie though, I just have my expectations set to zero.

Posted by DukesT3

Color me impressed.

Posted by PoisonJam7

Bet it's going to be filled with microtransactions. If you can even play it, that is.

You're not done with Star Wars if you're going to see the movie. It's ok to go see it and look forward to doing so.

Takeaway from that video is that playing as the Rebels apparently sucks ass.

Imperial walkers, Vader, Boba Fett. But hey, we got Y-Wings and Destiny shield/grenade strategy!

Posted by Kairu_de_Large

Cute and all, but get back to me when it's game play. It was a nice video utilizing Star Wars aesthetics, but that's it really.

Posted by Mayu_Zane

I will only play this if I can play as BB-8 with a blaster duct taped to his head.

Okay, stop. I picked this comment to quote but there are a dozen others to choose from. There seems to be a lot of people who are very confused by what they just saw. It's like you people have not played Battlefield 4, or any high fidelity PC game in the last year or so, or seen any new current gen PC and/or console games in development being shown off, or you just have no clue in general about what the state of a cutting edge graphics is.

This is what the game will look like when you play it, except with a static camera angle and a HUD. The environments, the assets (soldiers, weapons, vehicles) and the effects are all going to be in the game and look like that. Some things were especially crafted for this trailer, in particular some of the animations, like the rebels who are in awe of the AT-AT and Darth Vader, and the action is scripted specifically for this trailer, which is why it would be wrong to call it a gameplay trailer. Other animations like soldiers running around, AT-ST/AT-AT movement, the rebel soldier yelling out an order, those all seem like animations which will be in the game.

DICE does not do target CGI renders. This is not the Killzone 2 target render (which was done by a London movie CGI studio), or Blizzard cutscenes. This is exactly the same type of in engine trailers they've done in the past. Let me take you back 8 years to the in-engine trailer for Battlefield: Bad Company. The game wound up looking exactly like this, but with a HUD:

Once again, I really do not understand the reluctance among people (not just on here) to accept that this is what the game actually looks like. Have you folks not seen The Witcher 3? Unreal Engine 4? Games look great now. It's not about higher poly count or normal maps anymore; we're way past that. It's about photorealistic lighting, shadows and particle effects, something which DICE look to nail perfectly with their latest iteration of Frostbite 3, which, even in its current iteration, looks amazing. Star Wars: Battlefront looks like a step up from Battlefield 4. Not to say it doesn't look great but it is hardly the "this can't be true" quality that some of you are saying. This is what Battlefield 4 looks like, which is now over two years old (the tech is even older). What do you think DICE's engineers have been up to in those two years?

Don't just take my word for it. DICE employees have confirmed that Star Wars: Battlefront actually looks like that in game. People who were at the event who got to see gameplay have said so too. If you still have doubts then I can't help you. All I can say is that this is not the same as Killzone 2 or the Watch Dogs downgrade thing, and that you will be proven very wrong and in a couple of weeks or months (whenever they debut gameplay footage publically).

That EA logo ruins that Battlefront title card. Not in terms of it being EA, just the obnoxious positioning. Colour me warily excited for this overall. I feel as though this trailer was a confirmation of no space combat, otherwise they would have shown it off for sure, right?

Posted by Sanj

Hell fucking yes.

Posted by isomeri

This is what I'd hoped "next gen" games would look like before the release of the two consoles. I don't have faith that the game will actually look like this, but I'm still excited to play it.

There's something hilarious to me about people voicing concerns and being called negative. After the track record EA and DICE have had, especially recently, people have every right to be cautious. Do we want the game to come out and be great? Of course, but don't act like we're all here being negative just for funsies.

Personally I really do hope the game comes out, runs smooth and has longevity that keeps me coming back to it months and years from launch. As it stands now though? I'm skeptical, just like some of us have the right to be about something that is, obviously, not final code. Here's hoping E3 sheds some light on the game and how well it actually is as, you know, a game and not just a teaser.

You can try to say that's not a teaser all you want but, come on people, don't be foolish. Teaser as fuck in here!

Posted by vaportra1l

I highly doubt it looks this good on the consoles. I hope they bring all the destruction stuff from the BF series over, it would be awesome to see that forest leveled by the end of the match and littered with dead AT-ATs etc... Either way I'm excited to play it and then go see Episode 7 this winter.

Agreed, it's pretty lazy on their part. That was really my favorite part of the first teaser for episode VII, hearing new music.

More like Star Wars of Duty Battlefield: Space Warfare!

Posted by krabboss

Make it look like everything else. Don't take risks. Just put all the recognisable shit in there and be done with it.

Star Wars.

Posted by Mister_Snig

Can't wait to play this in Spring 2016!

Posted by Gruff182

Looks fantastic, may be in engine, but theres not a chance in hell thats running on console hardware.

Need to see and hear about the gameplay before I can consider it though.
