My girlfriend can't wait to play this.

I wish I could alter time to space back to when Square made decent and relevant games.

I'm really glad they felt the need to label the fight segments that take away any sense of immersion as "Cinematic Action". Thats fantastic, Japan. I wouldn't want to be confused as to when I should be enthralled.

Can't wait to try out the time puzzles...goodbye linearity, you can solve even them by going in different directions!! GOTY 2012 confirmed

ever since I saw trailers of FF13, I still can't tell what's going on this game.

If they are making a trailer for the demo, that kinda tells me "we are desperate."

Rented 13 and it was back at Gamefly within a week.The pedo vibe from the sarah stuff largely ruined the game for me.Why anyone wants to double down on ff13 is baffling to me,

Ah, now I remember what I was going to ignore schoolwork for today. Really looking forward to this game - more or less looks to fix everything bad about FFXIII (strict, insane linearity and half-good-half-fuck-off cast) while keeping the good (interesting world / lore, gorgeous visuals, and solid combat).

It's probably not a good thing when the only character that had lines of dialogue that didn't make me roll my eyes was wearing a chocobo-styled bikini.

Somehow, they've managed to make the moogle more annoying than Mokona from Magic Knight Rayearth.

Which means I just admitted I used to watch Rayearth. Bah.

I share the same feelings at this fellow. If you ask me, it's an upgrade from the old ATB system used in earlier games.

I don't know why but for some reason I kept thinking that this game was DLC.

Tons better! They managed to make a turn based system actually exciting to play.

Got through half of XIII and asked myself why these are being made instead of remaking Xenogears...I know ittle never happen....but a man can dream....

I'm absolutely thrilled. They made so many smart changes! The demo was so fantastic that I shut it off so I could save it for the retail release.

After playing this demo, I definitely feel there is more depth to this game than FFXIII while still having a similar feel. I really can't wait until Jan 31st.

They really changed a lot with this game from FFXIII, plenty of interesting tweaks and just straight up new features and for people's complaints about how linear the areas in XIII were until Gran Pulse they have added plenty of branching paths and nooks and cranies in this game going by the demo and that previous trailer.

There is more to it than that. Also among the numerous other changes they changed the health bar in this to something like out of a fighting game. Specifically that sometimes an enemy will wound a character in battle which causes their max HP for the fight (at least until they die and are revived) to decrease so if you are careless and just mashing your way through the character's will get worn down and be unable to fully recover adding greater urgency to the fight along with more incentive of getting 5/5 (ie. winning the battle quickly) by giving a larger chance for better drops/loot for finishing the battle so efficiently.

Now I need to finish XIII so I can know how this makes any sense

I should play that demo, but I don't want to spoil too much about the game.

My very first contact with FF the FF franchise was in fact FF13 and I really liked it.

Yeah, maybe if I had played that magic FF 7 back in the days, maybe I would be hating FF13 too.

But as it is now I preordered FF13-2 and probably will have a good time with it.

I don't understand the unbridled fury towards modern Final Fantasy, XIII was far from a bad game.

XII was one of my favourites in the series.

It's just unfounded cynicism, and everyone jumps on the bandwagon because it's now the popular opinion.

I will personally be picking this game up.

Indeed. Just because you aren't directly controlling all characters doesn't mean there isn't strategy. Yeah, for your standard fodder enemies you usually do RAVx3 then switch to COMx3 to power through them but as you said there are easily some enemy types that can really mess you up (even in the demo) if you aren't active enough in the decisions you make.

I thought I'd grown out of JRPGs until I became basically riveted to the Chrono Trigger endurance run.

I think it isn't mere nostalgia. The JRPGs we're getting from Square (and other developers) simply aren't the equivalent of what we were getting in the mid 90s to early aughts.

Yeah I think that your first FF-game is the game all others will be judged by. I started playing with FF7 and nothing since have been quite the same. If you started later than FF7 probably doesn't seem very special. I've played the older games on NES and SNES, but do not think they are even close to FF7. I'd imagine someone like you would feel the same way. Whenever FF18 comes out and it's nothing at all like FF13 you'll complain too I guess ^^

Last FF game I finished was FFX-2 last one I really liked was FFX, even though the changes were already severe from the PS1 games with no world map and such.

@paulwade1984: The battle system from 13 really isn't all that terrible actually.. it just feels like square enix are desperately trying to get out of the RPG business.. and certainly as far away from anything resembling final fantasy as possible

All that said, ff7, 8, 9 and 10 did something to me, Im not sure what, maybe a retrovirus, or some sort of gene therapy.. maybe mind control.. or post hypnotic suggestion.. but now I have to buy a ff game when it comes out.. and like a prostitute with daddy issues.. I often feel dirty and used by the end of it
