I've been kind of down on the Assassin's Creed series since Brotherhood, but if they can nail the insanity of the French Revolution and if the light rumors of a female protagonist are true, then I'm back on board.

That does not look like a female mouth/nose/chest.

The chest is slightly puffed out and rounded, could be a woman or a man. Nose and mouth don't really matter. There are plenty of women who have rough looking features. Just looked at Captain Kidd in AC4, if not for her voice, I wouldn't have immediately said, 'That has to be a woman.' immediately.

Could not think of a better setting. The French Revolution and the Terror just offer some staggering moments for something like Assassin's Creed to exploit and explore. I can't think of any game that has ever come even close to representing such a chaotic time, plus there's a number of female figures from the period who could easily work in the period.

There are also some really natural periods of calm within the whole period of the revolution that'd naturally tie into the AC structure, the scheming before the Bastille was stormed, the National Assembly, the Terror and the final aftermath. Could work so well.

And as to the brutality of the period for the people who don't know it, as an example, de Launay (the Governor of the Bastille) was dragged through the street surrounded by people discussing his execution. He kicked out at a pastry chef and in return was stabbed repeatedly. When he feel to the ground his head was sawn of by a butcher then carried in celebration by the crowd at the end of a spike... And that's just how things kicked off at the beginning.

Hope they don't mess this one up, it'll be interesting to see such a bloody period of history be attempted by any visual media, it's pretty rare so far.

It looks gorgeous, but the whole Watch Dogs thing has made me pretty skeptical about these sorts of trailers. Hopefully it holds up to this promise.

Atleast this game is like 6 months away, and not 2 years like watch dogs was when we saw first trailer.

But we know how ACBF looked on ps4 and this should be a step up from that seeing as its not crossgen, so expectations should be set to that really.

Good setting. Means the parkour will be fun again.

Why is it called Unity? I thought it meant they were using the Unity engine, but the Unity engine isn't capable of looking that good.

"Liberty, equality, fraternity" was the motto of the French Revolution. The game's subtitle is probably related to that - the underlying objective of unity and democracy behind the french revolution and the period of enlightenment.

@retrovirus: I'm pretty sure Jade Raimond recently said that the next AC would not be set in Japan, but she liked the idea. I think we'll see something over the next few years.

When you say "current-gen systems". What exactly do you mean?

PS4 and Xbox One. You know, current-gen.

And this is one of the many good reason people say next gen.

As far as the public is concerned, the Xbox One and PS4 are next gen until the Xbox 360 and PS3 are 6 feet under. That's 2015 at the earliest. People should stop trying to push for ''the correct way to talk about things'' with JIFs, rogue like likes and current gen.

The masses have spoken, it's GIFs, rogue likes and next gen. That is the correct way to talk about things because we understand when you say it that way. Just deal with it (talking to no one in particular unless you feel this is targeted at you).

@kkotd: Thats a man dude. Anyways, the reason why its called Unity is that its multiple protagonists. The scuttlebutt is that Ubisoft is playing off of GTA 5's multi-character narrative. So, that means you will flip between multiple protagonists. Also, means that there will most likely be a female protagonist among them(although not the dude in the teaser).

I don't know is Assassin's Creed is still fun now that Titanfall exists. I feel like the biggest parts of it draw was mobility and now it's not the best at that anymore in a 3D Actiony Space. In AC you run along prebaked ledges on walls. In Titanfall you just run along the wall itself. And then jump across the alley to another wall. And then run along the side of a sign and then jump through a window perfectly and then blast a shotgun into the people inside the building.

Assassin's Creed is dull by comparison, obsessed with stealth and stealth missions and increasing the difficulty of just dispatching dudes quickly. It's especially ridiculous to the point where they introduced new kinds of stealth in the last game, boat stealth! Mind you it was still pretty solid but... those missions definitely drag things down.

They could be pulling another James Kidd (aka Mary Read)

I was hoping we left Europe behind for a while, but nope.

I mean it looks pretty as heck, and I'm sure it will play as well as any other AC game, but man I couldn't possibly care less about the French revolution.

Edit: Clever way of making it kinda look like a 4 with that guillotine cut.

Makes sense after AC3, Marquis de Lafayette was a character in that game and made allusions to the French Revolution (or at least the state of things in France.) I hope they nail the setting and story. And of course do something with the gameplay.

Also way too many people in these comments think people actually know what game engines are, let alone fucking Unity. People might know Unreal at best, even then hardly what it entails to any real degree. Like the Unity engine is a very cool thing that only seems to be getting better, but seriously...

At first I read that as "I was hoping for Europe behind the wall", and thought that a cold war era Assassin's Creed set in East Germany and/or other Soviet states could be pretty interesting. That templar/assassin's nonsense applied to KGB, CIA, Stasi etc., and syncing on top of the Berlin TV Tower.

Excellent. I'd been hoping for something more like industrial revolution England; a grimy, close-in European city with weird new technology constantly popping up (think the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock movies) and this seems pretty close. I'm definitely interested in the setting, but it'd be a shame to lose the naval aspects, though.

On another note, Assassin's Creed without pirate action? What the hell are you doing, Ubisoft?

Yeah, also one of the devs for Watch_Dogs did confirm that the earlier demos during E3-2012 were all done in PC spec dev kits thus the graphical enhancements we saw in the earlier demos and not done in the PS4 dev kits we can expect to see in the PC version (with a PC that is also beefy enough to support those enhancements ofcourse) hopefully. The later/more recent demos that were shown last year we're all done using PS4 dev kits thus graphically it has been toned down.

Ubisoft sure has some gaul to release a game set in France.

Don't worry, I lol'd.

Black Flag is the only AC game I enjoyed. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. I'm wondering if they do anything interesting since it won't be on last gen consoles.

I'm down, especially if the gameplay is "next gen" along with the graphics. Assassin's Creed is great, especially IV, but most of the core gameplay mechanics are seriously antiquated at this point.

That already sounds more exciting to me. I'm no Japanophile - I don't really watch anime or anything, but I continue hoping for Japan, simply because Eastern culture is extremely alien to me so it would be interesting to experience it.

@divergence: Yup, there's always a leak in March that forces Ubisoft to show their hand, although they've rarely just straight up shown game footage like this. That could mean a lot of thing as in the game could've been in development for a long time now or maybe the new consoles are just easier to get the game running on.

Show me the in-engine. No way will there be crowds like that.

Absolution had huge crowds on PS3/360. Heck, even Blood Money had dense crowds 2 generations ago, I don't see why a PS4/Xbone game couldn't. Seems like a logical step forward for the series, too.

You're right to not get your hopes up but it's certainly not impossible.

Assassin's Creed is like Mario but with more jumping and less fun.
