I'm not normally a huge fan of remasters, but it seems like they're really putting a lot of work into this one.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah. The game definitely looks better, but I don't feel like playing through the story again. And I feel like paying $80 (Candian, after taxes) isn't worth it just to play GTA Online for a couple days and then get bored.

They've said you can transfer your saved game, so if you want it just for free-roam or whatever activities that's an option.

These assholes are making me buy a remaster of a year-old game instead of something new like Assassin's Creed or Dragon Age. And I even finished it on PS3.

Well, it was made for last gen. But from what I've seen, I would say that the game looks pretty damn current gen if you take into account that it's a huge open world game. If it actually manages a steady 30 fps I think the game will look incredible.

Feels a little sales overstated, by adding characters or animals to the scenes where there happened to be none/few in the PS3 footage - but there obviously could have been. Also fairly certain that vehicle paint had reflections at night previously, only not in this video.

Obviously looks great nonetheless.

Save transfer is for GTA Online only, not story mode.

I held off on playing this last year because I was hopeful that Rockstar would release a slightly better version for the PS4 and I could just get that instead. Instead they're releasing what appears to be a significantly better version.

Oh well. Can't win 'em all.

Interestingly the depth of field effect is actually cranked up, some of the distant shots are infact blurrier, but the local detail is obviously significantly better.

I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but considering how much I utterly adored DoF in Dark Souls 1, I'm good with it, it can really, really add a lot to a game.

I've pre-ordered my copy already, SSD is in the PS4, I've got a duct fan installed in the TV cabinet because the PS4 is a noisy piece of shit with graphically intense games unfortunately, I've got 2 controllers with a charging cradle so I can shotgun my controllers, I am good to go.

EDIT: Oh and I hit Rank 12 in the GBSQ clan in GTA Online!

No kidding. The PS4 shots were hazier and looked more washed-out overall. The detail is obviously better, but the color/clarity looks better on several of the PS3 clips by comparison. I hope that's not the case with the 360/X1 versions, but I suspect it might be. I guess they chose to make things fuzzy in the distance so everything close is sharper. This is likely an unfortunate byproduct of the first-person mode. They don't want you having a close-up on crappy textures, which sounds nice, but it also means the landscape views apparently aren't going to be what they could be.

They keep showing these backgrounds and landscapes but the most important thing to me is character models. Not to mention the player models in GTA online were abysmal compared to the NPC models. They have yet to mention any upgrades to the player models and I fear that no one is going to cover this.

(C&P) :

I know this is a crazy thing to whine about but GTAV on PS3 (360 too? I dunno) essentially has probably the best colour and lighting in a game in history.

The flawless color and lighting, means that even though it's a low resolution game, with low res textures, from a distance, in the corner of your eye, it's easy to mistake GTAV shots with real life, it's incredible.

EVERY screenshot of GTAV for PS4 I've seen looks great but when compared side by side with PS3, continually the colour is .. "gamey" - either too dim or too yellow or not saturated enough? I don't know the term

I know it's nuts, I know ... at least a good portion of customers will never notice - but some of us truly appreciated the utterly incredible lighting of GTAV.

Can someone at Rockstar, please please just forward this to the graphics team, even if they don't respond? Just make them aware?

I hope I'm wrong but I keep seeing it in every video, every screenshot. Please don't get, literally the best thing in GTAV wrong.

I play on a monitor and I'm with you folks who feel they go a bit overboard. I'd prefer a more realistic take on depth of field blur and colour, contrast, the same way I have a hard time taking the visuals of Forza over the realistic tones of Gran Turismo.

I'll tell you what I need from the PS4 version though - a clear vision through the sniper scope, to the new visual range, that I even on the PS3 version would snipe players beyond the falloff on.

I played the whole story, but I'm really curious to see if I could play through it again with first-person mode. It really sounds like it'll look & play like a different kind of game. I'm also curious to see the set-pieces enhanced for better hardware. Sure, the story is one I now know, but it'll be an unoffensive romp with plenty of new things to see & experience. Not saying I'm guaranteed play it to completion like I wanted to last time, but I also wouldn't be surprised if I actually do.

This remaster looks impressive. Problem is, I already played it! Perhaps it'll get the HD treatment at the end of the generation. Jokes aside, as beautiful as it was on PS3, I thought 5's hyperactive moment-to-moment gameplay ushered in by its triumvirate of protagonists came at the cost of narrative depth and emotional engagement, urban streets felt like they were wallpapered on (lack of interactivity), and the world itself leant so heavily on verticality that the northernmost regions of the environment were mostly inaccessible to all but the most mountaineering-inclined of us, and felt smaller as a result. The mission design, bar the disappointingly small amount of heists, were rote, generic and unspectacular, and the campaign too short-lived to be especially memorable. It was jaw-dropping to look at, though--I can't stress that enough--and will seemingly look magnificent on new consoles.

I hope I'm wrong but I keep seeing it in every video, every screenshot. Please don't get, literally the best thing in GTAV wrong.

The best example I can find is the night shot with the helicopter at 0:58. Everything about that looks worse to me, except they put reflections on the helicopter. Uh, yahoo? Also, at 0:44, Michael doesn't even look much better, but the signs in the background look markedly worse. At 0:14, the contrast isn't as good and the colors aren't as vivid.

Interestingly enough, the desert clip at 0:20 looks better all-around, as do a few other clips. So maybe (and hopefully) the lighting/color/depth of field aren't universally worse and just dip in some places to allow for improved graphics. Still, we're on the same page in hoping they don't scrap one of the best parts of R* games.

@notnert427: The depth of field is not as prominent during normal gameplay as it is in this video and you can even turn it off, if you want. It looks fine and markedly better than last-gen does.

They could have just called this GTAVI. It's not even the same game. I have some high hopes for the PC version even though I've already finished it on PS3. If this game doesn't run ok on my GTX 980 and 4.6ghz CPU then there's gonna be a problem.

I got GTAV when it first came out on PS3 and I got maybe 3 hours into the game and just didn't have time. I sold it when they announced GTAV for PS4/PC, and after seeing the first person mode and this I made the right decision. Good things come to those who wait. I wonder if after playing this the original releases will feel "unfinished" even though it was more polished than most games.
