I was listening to the podcast, and they were saying "if you have a 4k TV, and don't have a modern console, then you can justify the Xbox One X" and so I caved. Time to catch up on a half generation of games...

I like them talking about this stuff, but not sure anyone will get anything from the game footage.

I wonder why they are trying to hide the gamertags? It's not like we don't already know the staff's online usernames?

@fink: yah it was a fun stream but I could not tell the difference at all as a home viewer apart from that ladybug demo.

Also it’s weird to see Jeff continue to wonder why someone just doesn’t get a PC if they want more power when he most recently did that interview with the Xbox guy who I think succinctly explained the difference between the couch console person who wants nicer visuals on their couch, and the PC person that REALLY wants the raw horsepower and is willing to work/spend for it.

So, I'm in a really weird/good position; I have a PS4 Pro, a 4K HDR TV, and a gaming PC with an i7 and an OC 1080. Firstly, anyone with a Pro and an HDR TV should try The Last Guardian; it looks incredible with HDR on.

Secondly--and more importantly--I bought an Xbox One X today. I always buy new consoles when they come out (just give it a little extra power and I'm in), but the main reason I did so is because my PC monitor is only 1080p (though, 120Hz). 4K monitors are crazy expensive compared to 4K TVs, so having a really powerful console that can play games near PC quality at 4K with HDR for "only" $500 seems well worth it.

Might buy one of these sometime, 'cause I'm dumb.

Maybe I'm just missing something but what exactly is the point of a 1080p stream/video showing off a bunch of games running in 4K?

You're not gonna build a more powerful pc at the same price with a blue Ray 4k player... Facts... Just the card will be $400. It's cool, I think if you own a lot of 360 games that you want to play, cuz in the end Xbox lacks exclusives.

I agree. It's unusual in that there seems to be a lack of self-awareness here: they are specialists in this field but seem to assume there are a huge number of people out there with the same knowledge, expertise or desires as themselves.

The vast, vast (vast, vast etc) majority of people, even the subset of people who want to play games, will never even consider building their own PC, or spending a couple of grand on a top of the range pre-built one. If the ability to get that "top of the range" feel is available in a £450 box you plug into your TV, and at the same time doesn't have the new-console "there are only two games for this" problem, it seems like a pretty tempting offer to me, and probably most people.

I think Jeff's initial reaction to the X was "I can't see a use-case for this", based on his lifestyle, which isn't the norm. He seems stuck in that thought pattern.

I am upset that I am more excited about this stream then my real XBOX.

The reticle was in the wrong place while firing the chain gun at :45. (And "Microsoft" and "too expensive" do not belong in the same sentence. Next to Minecraft, PUBG is a cute little game that few people play.)

I feel like bringing up PC all the time misses the mark, considering the price of a 1070 GPU alone is only $70 dollars off the price of the entire console itself. I have friends who like to play games but who have laptops and MacBooks that they already invested money into, and something like this would be exactly what they wanted if they wanted to get more power playing their games.

You know the Need for Speed movie isn't actually super awful. I mean it's not high art or anything but it's an okay car movie with a dumb plot.

PC building is still a hassle.

I shopped around for parts for a couple months to get good deals (and this was before the memory and graphic card price hikes).

Making sure all parts were compatible required some reading (long time PC user, but hadn't paid too much attention to hardware for a while) and research.

The assembly part didn't end up too difficult, but I did get nervous about the couple "points of failure" from various guides. Not to mention how long it took the GB crew to assemble that PC a year ago.

I just wanna say that there was a ton of stuff going on in this stream and Jason was seriously on top of it all. Great work man.

Prepare to be amazed. I can't believe how good fully "enhanced" games like AC Origins look on the One X. It's a pretty damn impressive console.

For the record, I just timed my last three loads in Gears 4 from main menu to the game, different chapters/saves and all were 15-20 seconds. How is that "terrible" I don't know, Jeff. Stock HDD.

For me, the advantage to playing on PC isn’t better visuals, higher resolution, etc, but rather frame rate—and I don’t mean 60fps. Getting a 144hz monitor was a real game changer for me. You lose frames at a 60fps cap, you notice. When you’re in the hundreds, nah, not an issue.

Actually I did use the website, very handy for sure. (which again, one would need to know about first)

I am under the impression that sometimes case dimensions still might not fit specific parts (mostly giant video cards)?

@francium34: Yup. My case was designed with big-ass cards in mind though--you can take out the middle drive bay (which I had to do for my GTX 1080).
