The act of acquiring resources for the purpose of building structures and/or unit construction. Resource gathering is a staple of the RTS (Real Time Strategy) genre.
Two or more factions, either with the same or completely different goals, that constantly try to one-up each other. The player is sometimes forced to pick a side to root or work for during the struggle. Other times the rivalry is only mentioned in the plot.
Classic form of numbering that gives things a more regal feel.

A rush can be one of two things; in real-time or turn-based strategy it's pumping many units out quickly. In team-based shooters it is running across the map as soon as possible.

Shaman are mediums between the mortal and spiritual realms. In games, they are often priests with the ability to heal via magic and crafted potions.

Shift Queuing is the act of Queuing up a sequence of actions in an RTS by holding the Shift key and selecting multiple actions/movements in sequence, which are then carried out in order. This is done to maximize efficiency while minimizing Micromanagement and allowing the player to focus his attention on combat or other important things.

A gameplay mechanic in many RPGs and action RPGs today is the idea of silencing a foe or being silenced. Usually shown as a debuff, this causes the subject to be unable to cast spells for a period of time.
Skeleton Warriors are comprised of the animated bones of the dead. Often brought to life to do the bidding of an evil master as mindless and indefatigable soldiers and guardsmen.

Skirmish modes are found mainly in strategy games. They involve playing multiplayer game modes against AI opponents.
Slashing weapons are designed to cut and slice rather than causing blunt trauma. Examples include swords, axes, claws, naginatas, or even whips.
Some minions will grow weary of constantly waiting for the protagonist, allowing said protagonist to sneak past the obstacles or catch them off guard.
Crunchy frozen water fallen from the sky. Many games feature a snow world, a snow level, or otherwise-connected regions of wintery landscapes.
Splash damage is a term used in several types of games, most notably in first-person shooter and real-time strategy games, to refer to damage taken by players or objects in the area surrounding a point of weapon impact.
The recording of data related to player performance or progress in a game. This feature is commonly found in RPGs or competitive multiplayer games. It does not include statistics in sports games, unless related to player performance.
A unit type in real time strategy games. Static defense is a range of units that serve as base defense but can not move beyond where they are built.
A condition which affects a character's effectiveness, either positively or negatively. Common examples include Poison or Haste.
Like a critical hit, this is a special action invoked from certain attacks in games or caused randomly on attacks by a character's statistic. It causes opponents to lose the ability to attack back for a certain period of time, and usually invokes the hit character to go into a special animation.
The option to display dialog and other information with text on screen.
Summoning involves bringing a distant ally into battle to either perform a single, devastating attack or to fight on the behalf of the summoner.

A "Tech Tree" is a concept used mainly in strategy and role playing games. Unlocking a node in the tree generally unlocks some effect (example: a new ability in a role playing game or new unit in a strategy game). Unlocking a parent node allows access to its child nodes.
The ability to move from one area to another instantaneously - typically through some sort of special power or device.
Ancient race of beings in the Warcraft universe. They are the origin of many of the main antagonists as well as the race known as the draenei.
The Naaru are a race of beings that are made up of pure energy in the Warcraft universe. They are almost always associated with good and are one of the oldest races that we know of.
