Barack Obama has appointed a regular player of online fantasy game World of Warcraft as one of his transition advisers, it has emerged.

kevin. w : i hate this world... so i play in azeroth.

The man charged with providing the President-Elect with information about the US media regulator spends his spare time fighting monsters and completing quests on the fictional planet of Azeroth.

Kevin Werbach, an academic, is a member of two guilds in the world's most popular online game, playing under the name Supernovan Jenkins.

He has invested so many hours in the game that his "Tauren Shaman" character has reached Level 70, one of the higher ranks.

Mr Werbach, an assistant professor of legal studies and business ethics at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, is to co-author a review of the work of the Federal Communications Commission, to help Mr Obama plan his media policies when he assumes the presidency in January.

Bloggers and gamers have already begun speculating about what impact Mr Werbach's Warcraft background might have on his professional outlook, with some suggesting that his appointment indicates that the new administration may be more open to virtual worlds.

Hehehe. More...

Something absolutely amazing just happened. Read.

EDMONTON - Calls are pouring in about the sight of a bright light in the skies over the Edmonton area. Marcel Gobeil, who lives on a farm just west of Beaumont, was sitting in his living room when he heard what he describes as a "loud boom," followed by the sight of bright colourful lights just before 5:30 p.m. "At first I thought it was fireworks," said Gobeil.

"I've never seen anything like it; it was green and blue and then turned to bright red. "It was pretty big." Gobeil said he also saw the object hit the ground about 10 seconds later. "It seemed like it fell on Beaumont, but it's more likely it landed in Manitoba or Saskatchewan if it was a meteorite," he said. Edmonton fire dispatchers, meanwhile, said they contacted both the international and municipal airports after reports of the bright lights to see if an airplane had gone down. They still have no idea what the object was. "Everyone seems to have seen something," one dispatcher said, "but we have no call on it."

SOURCE

There was no reported seismic activity (if it was a meteor as big as they say), there is nothing about any meteor impacts on NASA's NEO today.

Might i add its been over an hour since the incident and there is nothing on CNN, BBC etc. Eyewitness reports also claim military activity from the military base in Edmonton.Heres footage. Whatever it is, its absolutely FUCKING amazing.

Here, 2 videos embedded.

The first video (taken from a police dashboard cam) is absolutely stunning, look at the sky light up.

I found this awesome collection from the Telegraph [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/3452381/UFO-sightings-140-years-of--UFO-pictures.html] [CLICK here for more]. This is only Part 1 of the collection, i assume the second part will have more modern photographs. Well this is a pretty decent collection here, some very famous once, others not so famous. Keep in mind how old some of these are... making most of them impossible to fake. You can think of these things as whatever you want to think, aleins, military aircraft, whatever, upto you i suppose. Enjoy

Washington DC 1952 and some UFOs were photographed flying over the Capitol building during a wave of sightings above the city

Bloomberg.com said:
Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral. Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.

*sigh* Why wont people realize, we cant trust the government. What do you think this money is being used for?

In other news, today i picked up Halo 2 (PC), Civ IV (PC) and Dead Space (PC) today for $80 AU, thats a bargain.

National Geographic Study: November 5, 2008 (John Roach) Nat Geo

I have a belief that the universe is constantly expanding and contracting. This is a pretty intense discovery even though its not fully understood yet. Its mind boggling enough to consider our own universe and its size, but to think that our universe is just one small particle in a greater picture. Epic mind blow.
Something may be out there. Way out there.

On the outskirts of creation, unknown, unseen "structures" are tugging on our universe like cosmic magnets, a controversial new study says.

Everything in the known universe is said to be racing toward the massive clumps of matter at more than 2 million miles (3.2 million kilometers) an hour—a movement the researchers have dubbed dark flow.

The presence of the extra-universal matter suggests that our universe is part of something bigger—a multiverse—and that whatever is out there is very different from the universe we know, according to study leader Alexander Kashlinsky, an astrophysicist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.

The theory could rewrite the laws of physics. Current models say the known, or visible, universe—which extends as far as light could have traveled since the big bang—is essentially the same as the rest of space-time (the three dimensions of space plus time).
