The story is not the greatest, and since the combat can get very repetitive during the middle parts of this game, I have a feeling that Jeff is not going to show any kind of praise towards the game other than the mechanics being sound.

Assuming he'll be the one reviewing it (according to the bombcast), I believe it will get 2-3 stars. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating or saying that he sucks for not being a fan, it's just that it would take a fan (like me) to appreciate the game a little more than any average dude wanting an action game. The tidbits of lore about the inquisition, the things the orks say, or even the style of how everything looks (how 40K is supposed to look) impressed me more than how the game progressed.

So, this being just a guess, I'll just leave it at that. I just finished it and thought i'd share my thoughts. So, even if you haven't finished it, how are you guys liking the game?

Don't worry huntad. If Jeff gives this anything less than a 4 star, not that I actually give a shit, I will send a strongly worded e-mail to Whiskey Media. On top of that I will create a thread on GiantBomb voicing my personal dissatisfaction with Jeff's general appearance. If this doesn't persuade Jeff to change his opinion, then it's intervention time and not the good kind...

I've never played Warhammer in my life, but Space Marine's demo pretty much sold me on it's awesomeness.

I often place one star/10 points/etc on a review score if the game is my genre/favorites series/etc.
 
I mean, a guy would 'meh' the Transformers cybertron game with 3 stars, I played it and digged the universe beforehand, and I would rate it 4 stars.
Personal preference is key with these sort of games.

It sounds like you feel it's not a great game beyond Relic's typically great realization of the 40K brand either. I daresay if Jeff does review the game and gives it a 3 star rating it'll be somewhat justified. A 3 star review isn't really a bad review anyway, I'm guessing his review would point out that Warhammer fans are going to get the most fun out of it while the quality of the experience may vary for others.

But that's the great thing, right? We know how Jeff feels about the Warhammer 40K stuff, and we can expect a very honest review from him and adjust our own expectations based on our knowledge of Jeff's personal likes and dislikes compared to our own.

The thing is they aren't only selling this game to tried and true 40k fans (myself included). They are selling it to the general public so if the game itself, outside of its greater universe, backstory, etc. is not good enough to warrant a high score, than it doesn't deserve to get one.

That said, I'm excited to get this game eventually. The demo was pretty fun and it is super 40k in terms of style and content so I dug that.

@MEATBALL: Yup, you're on the same page as me. I am not complaining that it'll get a 3 Star review. I am just admitting that it has flaws, and that it will most likely get said review score. Some people always have to act so high and mighty thinking that every criticism on the internet is a complaint and it is their personal job to be the biggest ass possible. Thank you and some above posters for not being total jerks about it. I honestly feel that if Jeff gave it 3 stars, it would totally be justified.

@JoyfullOFrockets: I think it's pretty sweet for what it is. If someone's looking for a third-person shooter with satisfying melee elements (and doesn't mind some repetitiveness) then i'd definitely recommend it.

@TaliciaDragonsong: Hell yeah, it's basically the same quality of that game! I remember that game dragged a bit too, so it's pretty cool that you made the comparison. It's not a bad game, it's just got a few problems that 40K fans can definitely look past and mostly everyone can get a decent amount of enjoyment out of.

Jeff was praising it quite a bit on the bombcast. I'm loving it but Jeff doesn't care for the 40k universe so it won't be as liked as much as Gears or something by him. No way is it worth 2 stars. The multiplayer is fun too.

If Jeff dislikes the universe this game is based in then why would he review it? An honest review would come from someone that knows nothing about the universe, in my opinion.

@Rhaknar: Feels more like Gears + God of War to me, but that's a funny name mashup.

@pornstorestiffi: lol, that pic above made me chuckle. But no, it doesn't bother me. I am having a lot of fun with the multiplayer. I am going to play this game for a good, long while. I just made this thread to give my opinion, guess, and to see how everyone else is liking the game. But yeah, the multiplayer is putting it's hooks into me.

As a fan of WH40k it's really a great game, but if I knew nothing about WH40k I probably wouldn't enjoy it.

As someone who actively dislikes WH40k? Oh dear. Have to wonder why Jeff is reviewing it when Vinny is so invested in the lore, has he really given up on reviews? Wonder who will be reviewing the 360 version of The Witcher 2 now.

on chapter 10 atm (of 17), if i wasnt a huge 40k fan i would give this game 3/5 myself to be honest. its well made, and thats about it. It looks fine but not amazing, it plays well, if safe, there is 0 variety, and the story, even for a 40k fan, is average at best. This might sound harsh but i am enjoying the game a lot, but like i said, a big part of it is because im a big 40k fan.
 
Its also annoying me that like i said, im on ch10 (of 17), and im still only fighting orks, still no chaos (before you scream spoilers, all trailers showed chaos in the game, come on). It also seems a bit short, im only 3 hours in and over halfway aparently.

I can't really handle Relic's RTS but I like playing this game a lot. I got the game because I like the universe of 40k though.

I didn't listen to the bombcast yet but I'm pretty disappointed if it is Jeff reviewing it. From the talk I did hear about what they know about 40k, I was really hoping it was Vinny who do it. Brad is good too.

Jeff just seemed to talk a lot of shit. =/

I played it now for a good 2hours. The story setup is pretty weak. Graphics on the PC are not even better than on console (At least I imagine.) and it suffers from terrible checkpointing.

People saying you need to know the universe of 40k to think the game is great are wrong, I've only played Dawn of War 1 + 2 and a few games of the tabletop but from what I played from the demo it's a great game.

It's just a review.

I bought the game today and have played maybe an hour of the multi and I think its pretty bloody awesome... The classes are varied, there seems to be a a decent amount of weapons and a huge amount of customizable skins. 
 
Id be happy with my purchase without the mediocre single player. 

I feel that 3 stars or something wouldn't be unfair.  
 
Haven't played it but i feel like if it is too combat focused it might get old fast if it is too short.. and if it is too short.. there is no content. 
I feel this combat would be more serviceable in a trapping like darksiders, just so the combat speaks for itself but it isen't the only thing going for it.

I'm still weirded out that no one in the GB crew knows anything substantial about 40k. Even Vinny who has started reading the books is still mostly stumbling around in the dark. It doesn't take much effort to read-up on it an be set for the rest of time. Seriously like 1 day or weekend spent going through the 40k wiki will give anyone enough knowledge on the universe to have a good understanding of pretty much everything important. The games at this point have become a pretty substantial franchise in video game form too.

I have never played tabletop, nor read any of the books, but still have some appreciation for the 40k stuff simply from the games and reading the rest o the background info on the Lexicanum.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of this game regardless.
