    Overview

    WGT Golf (also known as World Golf Tour and WGT by Topgolf) is a free-to-play behind-the-back golf simulation game developed and released by World Golf Tour Media (later renamed Topgolf Media) for supported browsers on October 2008.

    One of the earliest browser-based golf simulation games, WGT Golf features recreations of numerous real-life golf courses using special georeferencing technology (where numerous high-definition photographs from multiple angles are mapped into a virtual 3D space, giving the illusion of playing on a real-life course). Additional courses were added periodically post-release, including a recreation of the Topgolf target-based driving ranges as a mini-game.

    As a free-to-play game, WGT Golf includes numerous sponsorships and in-game advertisements as well as microtransactions (for choosing new player avatars and upgrading equipment).

    The game was later released for iOS and Android devices on October 2013 and for the PC and Mac (as a Steam Early Access title) on April 13, 2020.
