Not all fun and games...
Winter Games is a video game released for the Commodore 64, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Famicom Disk System and Nintendo Entertainment System. Though Winter Games was a high-selling game and most ports were favorably received, the NES/FDS version was critically panned.
While the other ports of Winter Games had seven or eight events, the NES/FDS version had only four (just like the Atari 7800 version) due to hardware limitations. The NES port also has some of the most unresponsive controls to ever be put into a video game, to the point that most of the events use only the D-pad and button-mashing is the only way to do anything in them, making the B button useless in the game. In addition there is horrible music, and there are hideous graphics, consisting mainly of desaturated colors.
The opening cutscene lasts way too long and can't be skipped. Despite this, the game has the gall to include an option to watch it again in the main menu.
Names on the high-score table can only be up to four letters long. Trying to add a fifth letter will replace the first letter, and you'll have to retype in your old letters to try again. You cannot move the cursor vertically, which makes it more tedious than it has to be.
The ice skating sport is HORRENDOUS, your character will never stop falling, no matter what button combination you do, and it’s nearly impossible to even do one trick!
And for some reason, the Ski Jump event is named "Hot Dog Aerials". What do hot dogs have to do with sports?
This winter season, during the holidays, whatever you do, don't play this game. Play real winter games instead.
