My friend is selling his 360 and wants to know if MS is still doing that 3 year RROD warranty.  If so, did he have to register anything to get this warranty?  Will the warranty carry over to the person who buys the 360, so if it gets the RROD they can use the warranty?  Thanks.

If it wasn't registered then Microsoft falls back on the mfg. date.  It's printed on the back of the console

Ok thanks.  So that means all the person would have to do is tell MS the manufacture date and if it's still good, then MS will fix the 360 for free?

I wonder if having the receipt would help to extend the 3 years from date of purchase instead of manufacture?

good question, but could that work for someone else seeing as they weren't the one who purchased it?  anyway, my friend said the manufacture date was august 28th 2008, so it's still ok.

The warranty starts the day the console is bought from a retail store. The warranty carries over to the person who buys the 360 and the 360 does not have to be registered.

Correct here, you do not have to register your console but it is smart since it makes it much easier to keep track of your warrenty and much easier to get repair setup.
