OK, so I own a TV that supports both NTSC and PAL, and my 360 should theoretically only support PAL.

But while I was in the US for a trip, I bought a used Assassin's Creed(from Gamestop) and it runs fine on my 360.
Did GS just put the disc in an NTSC case, or am I officially region-free now?

Because most Ubisoft published games are region free.

Both the US and Japan versions of the game doesn't work on Pal systems. You'll have to wait for the Pal version.

Most console JRPGs(a hypothesis, not a fact that I know of) aren't region-free. I would assume the reason would be because of translation.
