Will a vastly reduced failure rate prompt you to eventually ditch your current machine? (- I suspect that was the prime reason for it's [suspected] creation). Is the reduced size alone enough?, ( -it works well for Nintendo and Sony). I just want to know what you think Microsoft will need to do in order to motivate gamers into buying one. Would you welcome new features that the present hardware cannot support, in effect the creation of a two tier platform?. What kind of features would you want,? we've had the machine for a long while now, surely you must have some ideas. I've seen that Pachter dude (yes, I know) predicting the cost of a 250G Slim being $299 with Natal included, what are your thoughts on that?.
I've recently suffered some bad luck with two RRoD on two separate machines withing the space of 8 measly months. On both anger inducing occasions (mid campaigns) I've said to myself, I cannot fucking wait till these ____sort this out, and finally put out a reliable machine. I myself will be happy to get one, if it means I can be blissfully confident that my 360 isn't liable to clap out at any given moment. The fact is whenever I turn on my machines, I always have a touch of fear running in the back of my mind - that's fucked up.. I have two machines because I have "the fear".
Thoughts?
Xbox 360
Platform »
The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
What Incentives Will You Need To Buy A 360 Slim?
wifi is the only thing that would lead me to buy another 360. I refuse to buy their wireless adapter.
" Free online. "That has nothing to do with the hardware.
I wouldn't buy it for anything. My 360's recent enough that I'm not scared for it at all, and my 3-year warranty's still good and installing games to my 60gb hard drive reduces the sound to where it's practically a non-issue. There's not much that can be added, feature wise, to a new iteration because that would divide the market and no one wants that, not even Microsoft.
I've got a recent model 360 so I'm basically safe from RROD and the like, which would be the only way I'd get a slim.
I have a new 360 as it is. Short of being completely free and being fully backwards compatible with Sega Saturn games, I'm not going to ever get a new one.
It's purchase is justifiable for anyone with an older, failure prone system. But the 360 has hopefully taught me an important lesson: I'm never buying any Microsoft game hardware until it's been out long enough that I know mine will not melt itself.
I never got the original Xbox, but I liked a lot of what it did and I was all set to be a 360 owner... until the failure reports started rolling in. I ended up waiting four years to get one as a result, and I do not regret my hesitation one bit. In the hands of a responsible adult a game console should never break.
Built in wireless, natal included, a quieter console and an easy way for me to transfer stuff from my existing harddrive.
" if my current 360 red rings and the slim is out, since my warranty is done since it got replaced last time. "
I'm in the same boat with one of mine. At the first sniff of another hardware problem, I'll sell mine on or PE and get myself a Slim. I wont be wasting any time about it. You can get away with it.
On the wifi issue: Agreed, integrated wifi is an absolute must, for years now they've been making a shit loads of money on this disguised cost.
I suspect it'll be a lot quieter, fan technology has improved a great deal in the years since launch.
I myself will be happy to get one, if it means I can be blissfully confident that my 360 isn't liable to clap out at any given moment. The fact is whenever I turn on my machines I always have a touch of fear running in the back of my mind -that's fucked up,, I have two machines because of the fear. Thoughts? "This. The fact that it is slimmed down could be cool, and Natal might do some neat stuff if it gets enough developer support, but mainly I want a 360 that I'm not afraid will die on me. It's sad... but that's what I want most. I love the Xbox 360, but it needs to not have hardware failure, it's ridiculous.
Nothing really. The next generation of consoles is a little over 2 years away. I'm not going to drop down more money for a product that will be replaces in 1.5-2 years.
- at least 250 GB had drive
- Built in wireless
- Quieter
- No more than £300
I would be waiting in line on release day if all of these were met.
Of course, more reliable than today's Xbox 360 model.
Maybe also:
- Make it more quiet (better fans)
- Add 1 or 2 more USB ports
- Add a slot-loading DVD drive
- An upgradable 2.5" HDD bay
Don't care for WiFi (playing games over wifi, you crazy?!) or Natal. Also, I don't care for the form factor. I wasn't bothered by the fat PS3.
For those who care about BC, just download the BC stuff from Microsoft and install to your HDD.
My launch 360 finally died a few months back and I went and picked up new Arcade unit to replace it. I was lucky enough to get one of the new ones that had 512MB internal memory that had just been discovered as well, not to mention GameStop at the time had a promotion to trade in your dead units, so I only paid $89 out of pocket. The biggest problem for this whole RROD fiasco is the shoddy refurbished units that Microsoft sends back to people; if they had just sent out a new unit instead I don't think there'd be as large of an issue (though it would still be quite bad).
In any case I feel the Jasper units that are out there now are pretty reliable. Only reason for me to pick up a new 360 is if I decide to finally break down and buy a Japanese unit as there are many games I want to play and for whatever reason Japan continues to region protect their games.
I would get one for the following
1) perhaps they drop the price. Since they are doing well enough against the PS3 and even WIi now, dont think that will happen.
2) this shit is quiet. Even though the newer ones are quieter than the first ones, they are still fucking loud, especially with the disc.
3) It has to be a massive change for the better, smaller and somehow better looking.
4) slot loading disc drive.
5) WIFI inside. Dont like using this adapter
6) More USB ports
7) Smaller power supply
8) swappable hard drive. Now, if they do make this slim thing, they are gonna have to release a new version of the hard drive since if we are talking about slimming this thing down, will not go along with its new form factor. So either they do put out a new removeable hard drive, or they go the route of the PS3 and have it internal but you can access it and change it out, which would be the sweetest thing to happen to the 360, and if this does happen, this will be the primary reason i get one.
Much lower failure rate; please. I honestly don't know what else the new version could boot in that would satsify me. Wireless wifi would be nice, but knowing the disadvantages of laggy gameplay, I don't really consider it a high priority. Also I probably won't get it until my console dies.
Lower failure rate, built-in Wi-Fi, and the ability to replace my hard drive with any laptop sized hard drive without voiding the warranty or making it so I can't use Xbox Live.
Though two out of three wouldn't be bad.
Personally, i'd get another ps3 before a 360.
My launch 60gb is still running like a champ, (installed a 250gb) and i've clocked many 12+hour sessions, and thousands of hours of total time without skipping a beat.
