The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
Xbox makes noise when playing Alan Wake
Is is just with that disc? Is your console upright or horizontal? Does the Alan Wake disc have any visible scratches? What generation of 360 do you have, regular or S? Is it installed to the hard drive?
"You've got questions, we've got answers." And we have questions. And you have answers.
I'd try installing it, as PlasmaBeam44 suggests. As it's an older game it will be a standard dual-layer DVD rather than Microsoft's new proprietary disc format, and those two formats sound very different while being read.
I always install my games to the hard drive, not only to reduce disc drive wear and tear, but it plays so, so much more quietly. If installing it doesn't change anything, try a different game disc. If the noise occurs again with multiple games, try clearing your hard drive cache, and if that doesn't work then your disc drive may be failing. But as it's an S, I wouldn't imagine that to be the case.

@mlarrabee Damm thats a lot to ask. Its an s horizontal, not installed, rent from ....... Wait for it..... the public library so it probably does have scratches but it plays fine. Im playing with headphones on so it doesnt bother me but its the first time I came across a game that does that.
If it's from the public library it probably has some sort of covering over the disc with a chip in it for recognition and such. At least they do at the library where I rent games, and that covering is enough to make the discs incredibly loud when played.
Install the game on your harddrive, it'll spare you the noise.

What's this about a new disc format?

Huh, I thought it was just me, or that it was related to the 'disc is unreadable' error I got at the end of that play session. Whether it was a weird disc or some oddity of this specific game, though, I'm relieved at the suggestion that my 360 isn't finally kicking the bucket. *knocks on wood*
