I got the impression that you could create a character from the ground-up and maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but can someone please tell me how to make a character from scratch?

there is a character icon in the center of the screen that says Custom character click that bad boy when you are at the character select screen. it took me a while to find this as well.

Its right next to the random character icon. took me ages to figure that out on my own.
