Adequate, fun, flawed
I've enjoyed the game for the time that I've played it. The battle system is frenetic, the music is fantastic, graphics are solid for the games origins and age. It is fairly straight forward dungeon crawling, which I like, as there isn't much fluff to get in the way. Very little grinding, bosses are pretty epic and very fun. I like how the camera can change/be fixed in some sections to allow you to run around the large bosses.
Down side is that it is more straight forward than it wants you to believe. Lots of one shot items that do a single thing in the dungeon and then are never used again, so it isn't like a Metroid game where you get an item that solves multiple problems throughout the game. The first skill you get in the game is the one you will use the most over time. The characters are your typical JRPG whiners, the baddies are always saying "Oh I should just kill you now but I won't so see ya later!". I find myself mashing A as quickly as possible to get through dialogue, and the opening 10 minute cutscene is unskippable.
It lets you remap controller buttons but the map tool doesn't recognize the triggers, and it actually changes the button functions for the entire in game. Like, if you change jump from B to X, it also changes the "back" button. Defaults to right trigger click for your menu as well, which is weird.
I paid 5 bucks for it and it is absolutely worth that. Would feel the same if I paid 10 as well.
