Overview
Zhang Jiao was a figure of ancient China and founder of a Taoist religious sect known as the Way of Peace. As chronicled in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he used his power and influence to organize a revolt against the fading and corrupt Han government with the help of his brothers, Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang. This revolt came to be known as the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Zhang Jiao died in the year 184 A.D., after the Han government summoned assistance and sent a coalition force to thwart the rebellion. Following Zhang Jiao's death, the rebellion became weakened and was stomped out, with only small pockets of resistance popping up over the following decade.
