Duke is back at last, but is it a bad thing?

Duke Nukem 3D was a game that didn't really add anything new to the FPS genre, but it took what was out and made it super awesome. It took the gameplay of Quake and fused it with the puzzles of Doom, and spiced it up with a ton of humor. End result was a game that, to this very day, is regarded as one of the best fps games of all time and is still played by many today.

After the games success, developer 3D Realms started work on Duke Nukem Forever. Without telling the whole story, I'll brief it up by saying problems kept rising causing the game to start development back at square one. Then, in 2009 the studio shut down, and all hopes for Duke Nukem Forever, were obliterated... or so it seemed.

Then in 2010, Gearbox Software surprised the hell out of everyone by saying they were finishing Duke Nukem Forever and that the rights to the series were theirs.

Now in 2011, Gearbox and Triptych Games did the unthinkable and finished Duke Nukem Forever.  As everyone knows by now, Duke Nukem Forever did bad when it comes too critic reviews. Personally I think the critics have forgotten that the stuff they complained about is stuff that made Duke so awesome in the first place. So I present, my review of Duke Nukem Forever.

Duke Nukem Forever's story is pretty bland. Aliens have come to Earth and have kidnapped all the women. Duke is pissed, and he's gonna kick some ass. That's all you need to know, and that's all you will know seeing as the game has almost no explanation on anything. Duke does things, but we never find out why.

Graphics aren't very impressive, and there is a ton of texture loading. This may be because the game uses a very old version of the Unreal Engine. Though some things I think look pretty good graphically. (The Cycloid is a good example)

What stands out however, is the gameplay. Unlike 95% of all modern shooters, THERE IS NO IRONSIGHTS. This NEVER bugged me throughout my entire playthrough of the the game, and to be honest, I think it's better this way. People seem to be complaining over the regenerating health, but seriously. Health Packs would make this game almost unplayable. I do wish they would have had so Duke could carry as many weapons as he wants, but the two weapon thing is only a minor complaint.

The campaign is filled with firefights, puzzles that somewhat remind me of Half Life 2. I really enjoyed solving these puzzles even though they were very easy. The combat feels great, it actually takes skill to aim the gun. (OMG)

The campaign was fun for the most part, but every now and then you get a part that will have you shouting Fbombs all over the place. (*COUGH* OCTAKING *COUGH COUGH*) It should take you anywhere from 9-12 hours.  Once completed you can unlock the extras menu which has various things like gameplay of DNF in 1998, 2003, and 2006.  There is a cheats mode thing and I think it would have been sick of they had a cheat for health packs and all weapons.

And then there's the big surprise: Multiplayer.

There's a ton of content in multiplayer that I think will have people coming back for months to come. The modes are standard, but I think it's fine. Seeing as though something more complicated would feel very out of place.

Oh almost forgot to mention the HORRENDOUS load times. While almost non existent on PC, console players have the burden of waiting 30 seconds just to get back into action. This is especially annoying in the games more frustrating areas. Game should've been named Duke Nukem Forever Long Load times... I kid I kid.

I would overall recommend DNF for hardcore Duke Fans only. The humor is still great (Feces FTW), but modern gamers will likely find it hard to play with the lack of ironsights. I think if more people would go into DNF looking for a good fun time, and not a hardcore game with over the top graphics, kill streaks and such, more people will enjoy this game. Thanks for reading everyone!

Duke is Back, and He's Gotten Old 0

I'm sure there's a joke about size not mattering I'm missing here. Duke Nukem Forever is finally out. That is a statement that most gamers thought they would never hear. After being stuck in development limbo for 14 years, becoming a running joke in the gaming world, and even being cancelled at one point, the long awaited sequel to Duke Nukem 3D is available on store shelves thanks to Gearbox Software picking up the reins from former developer 3D Relams. Unfortunately, the tale of the game’s bi...

      Well, it's a game. 0

Duke Nukem Forever excels at one specific thing: Making the act of alien genocide fun as hell. All of the weapons have a great feel to them, and even the starting pistol packs a punch. Unfortunately, Duke Nukem Forever really wants you to do things other than shoot aliens, and that's it's biggest downfall.  12 years after the events of Duke Nukem 3D, Duke is now a mega-celebrity. Girls want him, guys want to be him. About 5 minutes after pressing start, aliens invade earth, steal our chicks, and...
