This mobile gaming company was founded in 2000 by the late Takeshi Miyaji, who was previously founder of Game Arts. G-Mode was the world's first mobile network game contents provider specializing in Java game software. It was the largest mobile gaming company in 2005, when GungHo made an investment in the company, purchasing 20% of its shares. This paved the way for the emergence of modern mobile app networks such as iOS and Android.
By 2010, G-Mode's mobile version of Tetris, released in 2000, had sold 100 million downloads, making it the best-selling mobile app of all time in terms of units sold.
GungHo eventually sold its shares in 2010, but would itself later go on to become the world's largest mobile app developer in 2013.
The company's founder Takeshi Miyaji passed way in 2011, at the age of 45.
