Gears of War was and still is a great 360 title.

Gears of War was a great game for Xbox360 and is still a great game now, lets see why.

Gameplay: In Gears of War the gameplay is going to be the most important thing to any fans of this game or anyone who wants to play this game. The story is good but the gameplay is what will keep people coming back and popping this game in for some great fun. The single player campaign is really fun and introduces you to all of the weapons. All of the weapons are extremely unique in their own way. Such as the machinegun, which is called the Lancer in this game, has a close range function of revving its chainsaw by holding the B button. Using this you will automatically kill any enemy in range of you as long as it is a basic enemy. This is really fun to do in multiplayer because it completely prevents your enemy from reviving yourself in one move rather then gunning them down and then stomping them. The shooting and cover options work extremely well in this game. This game isn’t really a run and gun type game as much as it is a stop and pop. This means that most of the time you will be hiding behind cover and holding the left trigger to lift yourself up then shooting at your enemy. Another unique feature in this game is active reloading, active reloading is basically pressing a button to reload but as it is reloading you press the button again at the correct time to make the reloading faster and the bullets which you loaded into your gun become more powerful for a certain amount of time. The multiplayer in this game is really fun for what I played of it. There is your common death style mode where players don’t actually respawn but when they die they are out for the rest of the round. There is also an extremely fun territories type of mode where you need to rush the territory and when someone from a certain side stands on it for a certain amount of time the territory then becomes yours. Each territory has a same set amount of time that it will last in play before it is used. There is only one territory at a time and can be stolen at any point as long as no one from the possessing team is in the center of the circle. Gears of War is a game with outstanding gameplay and it is definitely what fans will keep coming back for. 5/5

Story: Gears of War is not a game that you will expect to have a great story or even a story worth paying attention too. And you are partially right. You may not care much about the story because the gameplay is so blinding and is the main selling point of this game. But the story is actually an amazing one. Not just amazing for a shooter but an amazing one overall. The story is mainly what you would expect in this type of world with its own quirks. The only complaint about the story is that it does not explain a lot of things in this game starting from the very beginning of the game. This game mainly focuses on its sequel and/or prequel to back it up story wise and explain that. I understand this concept and I normally don’t mind it but this game had such a strong story and they had to make me dislike it just enough for my issues to become relevant. 4/5

Graphics: This game has amazing graphics that really give you a great feeling of this game almost being real. It already feels so satisfying to splatter your enemy with the chainsaw on the lancer but it feels way better when the graphics make the game look almost real and have blood and limbs bounce onto your screen. The graphics in game and in the cut scenes look great throughout the duration of the story without making any sacrifices. I was afraid of doing a 4vs.4 match online because I didn’t want to see how they may have blotched up the graphics in order to save the framerate or kept them the same to keep up the framerate. But I had no reason to be scared and I really underestimated the power of the 360. Online everything still looks great even in a full room with no problems at all. With graphics along with story there is one thing that is bad about this subject, which I actually think is cool. Sometimes within the transitions into a level the level will begin without any textures or layers and it will take a few steps for all of the textures to go back. I always thought this was really neat and enjoyed it but I do realize that this is a serious problem and really should have been fixed before release. 4/5

Sound: The sound in this game is amazing and it really fits the current situation well. The music is amazing and always is in the appropriate tone for the current situation. The voices are extremely well done and John DiMaggio does an amazing job doing the hard voice of Marcus Fenix and makes you really see how badass he is. The sounds of the guns are very smooth and make you feel like you are really doing some serious damage. The chainsaw on the lancer has an amazing sound effect when you hold B button and the sounds of you sawing through your enemies bones and the grunts and loud noises that your enemies make as they are being torn up by a chainsaw. The music feels really well done and sounds almost like the soundtrack of an action movie. 5/5

Conclusion: Gears of War is a great game that no Xbox360 owner should miss. This game excels in all territories with amazing memorable gameplay, which will keep you coming back. Amazing multiplayer on Xbox live and on the same console co-op adds a lot of replay value to this game. Altough the game isn’t really new anymore the online society is still booming with many people who play. You may not be able to tell because sometimes when you refresh you will be paired into the same match over and over. The story is definitely the weakest part of this package but that’s not to say its bad. The story is an amazing one which will make the fans, who care about the story and would rather do that then go online and smoke fools, happy. The story is great for a game that focuses more on action and graphics. The graphics of this game are amazing and make this probably the best looking 360 title at the time it was released. The music in this game is superb and sounds just like the soundtrack of an action movie. All of the sound effects and the voice acting are definitely my favorite part of the campaign mode. Watching all of the cut scenes and listening to the amazing voice acting really makes you realize what a great game this is.

This is one of those games that defines the industry. Of every game I have ever played on the Xbox 360 console Gears of War is by far the most creative, fun to watch, hard to put down and just plain old entertaining. Gears of War offers an entire new spin to any Combat game you have ever played. The words that best describe the difference between this third person, over the shoulder shooter, are personal combat. When in the heart of battle you are able to feel the breath of your opponent as he r...

      Good GoW, Y'All! 0

It's my personal opinion that games just don't have the same magic as they used to.  It could be that we're breaching too close to reality with the looks, and realism effects and character models based on people we recognise might be taking things a little too far.  Many games, particularly shooters have become a little tired and predictable.  I'm very glad to say that I don't find this to be the case with Gears of War.  Made by the Unreal Tournament team, there was never a chance I wouldn't pla...
