God of War III Preview
The countdown has begun to the eagerly anticipated launch of God of War lll in March 2010.
The story picks up exactly where the predecessor leaves off, so there is no catching up to be done. Kratos, with his Titan army, are battling to eradicate the four remaining Gods, namely Hades, Zeus, Helios and Hermes. This story of revenge gives plenty of scope for bloody battles against an onslaught of enemies. Sony have admitted that their biggest challenge was living up to the hype and expectation, so gamers didn’t think it was just another case of same old, same old. From the initial signs, it’s a pat on the back for Sony.
From the first glance at the whole thing in HD, you can see immediately the work has that has gone into the creation of GoW3. Every gory detail is replicated to great effect, and every weedy teenager will be longing to have the bulging biceps that are proudly displayed by Zeus’ son! This is a whole different ballgame from your PS2 version. The game play has been cleverly extended without being over complicated, which results in a very accessible, enjoyable gaming experience.
The pivotal starting point for everything in the game is Kratos, and the realism in the combat scenes is superlative. With the HD element used to full effect, his armor of Golden Fleece is reflective and his battle scars actually seem to ripple as he goes crazy on the battlefield, stomping about with gay abandon. This comes as close to feeling as if you are in a real battle as it gets.
There are multiple options now available for Kratos as he goes about his blood thirsty business. Grabbing a grunt, crushing his skull, ramming him against a wall, and finally using him as a bowling ball to take down the enemies, sure is fun. A moving, living world has also been created for our hero to rip to shreds.
To satisfy the gamers’ yearning to be able to rip more things apart than just grunts, a whole new band of menacing enemies are in place. The reintroduction of Cyclops as a drivable vehicle is very welcome.
This demo is very playable but there is still a lot to be done before the launch. However, on this basis it is very impressive. This round definitely goes to Sony.
