  • Easily the game I spent the most time with this year between the PS4 and PC versions. I've been into the series since 3 Ultimate on the 3DS and this game brings a lot of welcome improvements to the series. I'm hoping additional substantial updates are upcoming and look forward to further refinements in a sequel.

  • After picking up and loving Papers, Please years ago when it came out, it was a safe bet I would check out the next game from Lucas Pope. I wasn't even sure if I would be interested in it on first impression based on what I saw the game was going to be about and the style that was used for it. That changed quickly as the pieces came together via the release trailer and a quick look which quickly dashed any hesitation I had. Within a couple of days of playing every spare moment I had, I had completed one of my favorite experiences this year.

  • This was a fantastic surprise this year, especially as I never really clicked with classic Castlevania. This had a nice blend of options, great music and multiple paths players could work through. It was even successful in getting me to try some of the classic Castlevania games afterwards.

  • I've played a lot of Yakuza games over the last 3 years or so (4, 0, Kiwami, part of 5, this, Kiwami 2, and Fist of the North Star) so to an extent, much of them start to blend together in my mind. While this didn't quite hit the highs of Yakuza 0, it was a great cap off to these characters and setting (if it is indeed a send off).
