@dystopiax: They all do this to some extent. I tend to watch the press conferences without commentary live, then come back and watch the commented ones later, if I feel like it. It's called "We Talk Over X" for a reason, I guess.
Yeah I made that comment after the Halo one where it was primarily Dan, but then everyone starting doing it a little. I like a lot of the other commentary, I just feel like the guessing bit becomes more of an unspoken competition of games knowledge or something than anything actually entertaining or insightful. I'm still watching it because I like their takes on a lot of what's happening, but I could really do without that part.
I know no one cares but I really dislike the "guess what game this is by yelling out random names then looking smug and saying 'yes' if he gets it right" that Dan does. Sometimes you can just be quiet and let the quiet moments in the trailers breathe.
Vinny has the worst logic imaginable. He basically said, "Do we want to risk losing someone by bringing up new people, we should just bring our A-Team." Umm, your A-Team is essentially maxed out right now. If you wanted to protect them for the final mission, you wouldn't use them again at all until then.
So glad that X-Com 2 WOTC fixed this kind of thinking tho. Where you can't have just an A-Team. You actually NEED to develop other people because of the tiredness mechanic. Way more fun and its a feature that blends amazingly with the Bonding system as well to create some great organic storytelling with your characters.
I don't actually like using the shields on the ice mech. Using the ice invulnerability to not take damage from enemies or from blocking spawns is actually really useful.
@indigozeal: The "game journalists" involved are all accomplished writers by their own merit. I feel it is kind of dismissive to their contributions to say that including them in the game is a marketing stunt. Not to mention most of them are freelancers and as far as I can tell none of them are involved in the "purchasing advice" side of games writing.
being partway through the game and while I don't recognize all the authors I will say that I don't think any of the writing is bad. Maybe some of it is pretty stereotypical and flat, but none of it is awful.
Basically if they didn't have a thing before each episode telling you who wrote which character I don't think I would have noticed anything regarding the writing.
