Favorites of the decade 2009 - 2019

All the games that had some sort of an impact or just ended up giving me oodles of play time during this decade.

List items

  • 2012 - I went on a wild goose chase all throughout the city of Philadelphia in order to find this game on release day, only to get into an argument with a Gamestop employee over "why I didn't pre-order it", and then spending the rest of the next three years playing the hell out of it.

  • 2009 - This game was my very first foray into dark western RPGs. I wasn't an Elder Scrolls fan and I never played Baldur's Gate and up until this point, I hadn't played anything other than cutesy games or JRPGs so it kind of marked a growth point for me. HUNDREDS of hours played. I mean like, 500+ probably. It was ridiculous.

  • 2016 - I always return to Stardew Valley even when I have a million other games to play. Just one of those games I can return to time and time again, and it helps that Concerned Ape puts out free updates every once in a while. Now there's a multiplayer mode and I'm having even more fun. This game is relaxing, I've listened to so many audiobooks whilst playing on my little farm.

  • 2016 - Another game that I still play to this day and always return to, especially for Mei's Snowball fight during the Christmas event.

  • 2016 - Man, 2016 was terrible politically but I had a lot of games to keep me distracted at least. Fantastic game that got me into strategy games as an adult. Technically that was Civ V, but VI only made me more of an addict.

  • 2012 - My very first Fire Emblem game! This decade was dotted with a lot of unique gaming experiences for me. I wasn't sure if I'd be too keen on a strategy RPG, but it turns out it's now my favorite.

  • 2013 - I only alpha and beta tested 1.0 and I did not like it at all. Then ARR launched in 2013 and it was the start of a lot of new things for me. I moved back to the US, got into a new relationship with a guy who became my husband, and I gained a new family member in the form of a niece. This game has provided me with so many pleasant (and not so pleasant) memories that I couldn't imagine my decade not having this game in it.

  • 2008 - Technically, this came out in '08 but it was in November so most of the time spent playing it was in 2009. I'm adding it to the list for this reason. This expansion was a big deal for me. A really big deal. I know a lot of WoW people love to be cool and contrarian by saying this expac wasn't all that, and that Cataclysm was better...but this expansion was the one that held all my favorite memories that I just can't replicate.

  • 2009 - I never played the first AC, marking the sequel the first game in the franchise I tried and loved. Never played anything quite like it up until this point and the memories of playing as Ezio have stayed with me.

  • 2009 - Did this really come out in '09? It feels older for some reason. Anyway, I played an OBSCENE amount of this game back in the day. Wow.

  • This game is a lot better than it has any right to be.
