Game of the Year 2019

  • My anxious wait for the game to release on PC was rewarded with a rather broken launch and a whole load of annoyances, but the core game played on high graphics settings, in 1440p, at a nice framerate is an absolute joy. And its so immersive with first person camera and K+M controls, more so even than the first game.

  • I've been an on-and-off baseball fan for quite a few years, but my fandom reached a new level in 2019. First off, I went to the States in September and saw my first live MLB games (I'm a Cardinals fan and got to see them beat the Nationals in St. Louis and then beat the Cubs at Wrigley a few days later. It was awesome). Second, after Super Mega Baseball 2 was a surprise GOTY hit for me last year, I finally tried the acclaimed Sony PS4 baseball game series and found it to mostly be a delight.

  • Yeah, I played a bunch of this game this year, so what? It's great! It's fairly unbalanced and the AI is often thick as shit, but it is so satisfying to build up your rail business empire and crush all others beneath your boot of efficient pathing and resource management.

  • As a massive Paradox fan, I was probably more positive on this game than a lot of other people were, finding it to be an immersive and engaging game. But it definitely has shortcomings, lacks the depth of other Paradox games, diplomacy was almost useless around launch, and it was only really fun when playing as Rome. I haven't gone back to it in the year as much as I thought I might.

  • I bought this game at launch in 2016 and didn't really get into it. This year was the first time I found myself able to truly enjoy it. Maybe enough time had passed since my Euro Truck phase, or maybe the expanded map offered more variety. Dunno, but it's good.

  • Magic The Gathering is still good.

  • The second most played game on my phone, after Threes.
