X-COM Series Now on Steam

2K's got an alien-busting bundle on Steam in the form of five X-COM games.

Hey, I know we're really not in the "post something every time there's a great deal somewhere" business, but I saw this today and felt that I needed to pass it along. 2K Games has published five games from the X-COM series onto Steam today. They're cheap when sold separately, but cheaper when you buy them as a group, and cheaper still if you buy while they've got their introductory price.

How cheap, you ask? They're $4.99 a piece. The package will normally cost $14.99, but if you act now, you'll save an additional 10 percent, meaning you'll get five X-COM games--at least two of which are amazing--for the low, low price of $13.49.

Act now, deal ends on 9/11.

Oh, the actual games! I should probably mention those. The package contains...

Now, gee, why do you think that 2K would suddenly want to remind everyone that the X-COM series exists? Could it be that the talk about Ken Levine's next game being a new game in the X-COM series is true?

Anyone know if this release of UFO Defense works on Vista? I've tried playing the old windows release before and couldn't get it to work.

I played terror from the deep on VIA a steam download a few weeks ago and it was virtually unplayable.  My computer is way to fast to run the game at a reasonable speed... whenever it went over to the enemies turn all i would i heard a cacophony of screams and explosions only to find most of my team wiped out.  I could not figure out anything in that game!

Awesome.  I loved the original XCom, played about 8 billion hours of it back in the day.  I probably won't buy it again (much as I'm sure I'd enjoy the nostalgia, I've got a lot to play already), but I am VERY excited about the support this gives to Levine doing XCom rumors.  Huzzah.

UFO Defense is an absolutely amazing game.   It is the first game that tried to destroy my life.  But it remains a memory of my youth because these new fangled operating systems don't know what to make of it.

If these downloads actually work on XP or Vista, I'll have to download it to one of my machines and remind myself why I always had to uninstall it around finals time.

Its too bad UFO Defense and Terror From the Deep won't work on Vista through Steam.  Last time I tried to play the games (without Steam) I had to use DOSBox.

I would buy this pack, considering I never played any of the X-COM games but unfortunately, none of the games are compatible with Vista... >.<

@TheGTAvaccine: That's because the Xcom games are the best games ever made in the history of mankind. Fo sho'
This should be on the headline of every major newspaper in the world imo. That's my childhood brought back from the unplayable dead.

Then again, I just read in the notes for like half the games that Vista is not supported. So if you have Vista, this is no different than buying the collector's editions. It's still not gonna work most likely.

Wow.  There were a lot of compatibility problems with modern machines, like with the free release of the original.  It freaked out really often.  I really hope they fixed those.

I'm pretty sure that Steam packages the old games with DosBox, the only one I'm having problems with is Enforcer (it runs too fast)
