Batman: Arkham Origins is coming this October to current gen consoles, and it’s not being made by Rocksteady Studios. This time, WB Games Montreal is the developer.

It’s set for a release on October 25 for Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Set early in Batman’s career, Batman: Arkham Origins centers on a transformative moment for the caped hero, as he established relationships with those that will come to define him. The game also turns Gotham City on New Years Eve into an open playground.

In addition to Batman: Arkham Origins, Armature Studio is developing Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (say that five times fast), a 2.5D game for 3DS and Vita. Haven’t heard of Armature Studio? Just know some of the primary creatives behind Metroid Prime started that company. Interested yet?

It’s not clear what Rocksteady Studios is working on, though my money’s on a Superman game.

Could be okay. But I don't know if I want it if new consoles are coming the following month. Maybe they should just port it.

If actually they're working on a Superman game, good luck to them. That's a tough license.

I'm intrigued. Honestly, more intrigued by that handheld one from the people what used to work at Retro. Too bad I don't have a 3DS or Vita, or the funds with which to buy either of them. All my video game money needs to be saved up for a PS4.

Are all triple-a games made in Montreal now? (or maybe I should say, does every publisher have a studio in Montreal making a triple-a game now?)

Wasn't Rocksteady working on a Silver Age Batman game?

My guess is, they are building a new Batman made with Unreal Engine 4 coming to Next-Gen consoles and PC.

At this point the design and tech for the game already exists, so switching studios is probably not a big deal if the creative direction is good.

So are we just getting Batman Arkham Everything now for the next few years?

I would not be that quick to write this game off. I am hopeful yet hearing what Patrick says of the team behind it. Plus I like the Arkham games more than either GOW series.

I was pretty excited for this game until I heard Rocksteady wasn't making this now.

@colourful_hippie: The difference here being they talked about this being a prequel around the time the last one came out. Not sure if they are making a different prequel, but Rocksteady talked about wanting to make a Batman game set during the Silver Age and have the Justice League involved as well. This might be a stop gap or something? Either way, we really don't get many games like this.

I already didn't like Arkham City very much. I can't imagine a further sequel/prequel/whatever being all that interesting to me. The portable game, though...that could be interesting. Hoping it's not like Mirror of Fate or that level of "quality."

P.S. Arkham Asylum was my 2009 game of the year.

it sounds interesting...batman before he was really Batman. could be really cool depending on the direction that they take. i've loved both arkham games so far, and i wouldn't be opposed to someone new stepping in and shaking things up...

I think the confusion comes with that the handheld game looks more promising. The console team is the same staff that did the Arkham City Wii U port which isn't all that great.

Anyways, I hope this game lives up to the quality of the first two. Those games were both amazing.

If Rocksteady is making a Superman game, they better MAKE a Superman game. If more than 50% of the game takes place with Supes having both feet on the ground, somebody done fucked up.

Only played Batman AA, and that is pretty much brilliant all round. I hope Rocksteady is doing something completely new.

I wish the Metroid Prime guys were doing the console versions. I could really go for EVEN MORE SCANNING in my Batman. Totally serious.

I loved Arkham Asylum. It was my favourite game that year.

However, I don't need to pay more money to have the same experience again. I skipped Arkham City, and I'll skip Arkham Origins.

Amazing to hear it's supposed to be out at the end of this year. I know that was the rumor from the quarterly call a while back, but to hear that a new Batman game is coming out so soon after being officially announced is surprising.

Totally. Never understood the appeal of the 'character' outside of the cheesy Christopher Reeves movies. Unless Pat knows something we don't, that's a silly name-drop to insert into a news article.

With that said, I would've liked the Batman games to be given a break. Arkham City was pretty much the best thing anyone could ever hope to do with the franchise, so to see it being spread out like this seems like a bad sign.

I'll just be dreaming of that Rocksteady Judge Dredd game that will only ever exist inside my head.
