Burnout soon to be Downloadable on PSN
This is a great idea by Criterion, but as a 360 owner I'm sad to see it's not coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace too, even though I already own the game.
"Man, that is TOTAL SHENANIGANS. It's a pretty big step for digital distribution to see a "full" game like Burnout going up for the same price as at retail. Way to go for the Criterion guys."Warhawk's already done it. ;-)
But it's the first third-party game to be released both retail and on the PSN and be the same price.
Besides the fact that we already own the game, this would be useless to 360 owners. As someone who likes a hard copy of things, with the dash update coming this fall, Burnout Paradise will be the first or second game I put on my hard drive.
Although, this makes me think that MS will have this come next spring update. They already have Xbox games on there, so it's totally possible. I wouldn't expect to see Paradise in the first wave though (Halo 3, Gears 1, launch titles). ;)
I'm not sure how I feel about full size games being downloadable.
warhawk was fine because it was just the multiplayer component of a game, but things like Siren and Burnout Paradise might be better owned on a disc.
Might buy it this way, loved the previous Burnout games, loved the demo, just loved alot of other games last year that caused me to skip Paradise, might grab it as DLC... doubt it... especially if it's at retail price
Nice step by Criterion Games. This is a step in the right direction for increasing the acceptance and use of Digital Distribution.
"Might buy it this way, loved the previous Burnout games, loved the demo, just loved alot of other games last year that caused me to skip Paradise, might grab it as DLC... doubt it... especially if it's at retail price"It's only 30 US dollars for the download. With all of the free content out and still to come (well, it'll all be out by the time this is out) for the game, that is quite literally a steal.
I would think most people would rather have the game on disk since it would save them around 7 gigs of hard drive space, and it would prevent any possible issues the game could have being the first full game on the PSN. This idea will make some money, but not as much as people expect.
Burnout Paradise is a ridiculously good game, even if you don't care for racing games. If I can still get a good trade value for it on Goozex when it hits PSN, I'd rather get rid of my disc copy for the DLC version. Faster load times, not having to deal with taking a disc in and out of the system, and just having less clutter all sound worth it to me.
I have played a lot if it on the 360 but never bought the game. I will how ever buy it when comes out for PSN.
I have no idea why people are so hyped about this. For the same price you can own the game on an actual CD that comes with a book and a case. It would be nice if the downloadable version was $20 and the retail was $30 or something like that, but with this you're actually paying the same thing but getting less.
"This is a great idea by Criterion, but as a 360 owner I'm sad to see it's not coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace too, even though I already own the game."A lot of people only have a 20G hard drive.

"This is the perfect kind of game for digital download, but I still (and will always) prefer physical copies."
Yep discs ftw.
