An excellent return to form.
This game is the best Call of Duty I have played in a decade. I may just be partial because MW and MW2 are my favorite of the franchise, but honestly both the single player and the multiplayer hold up to much scrutiny. The single player campaign is a beautiful action movie full of bravado, risk and sacrifice. The characters are great. There are shocking moments that try to say something about the horrors of war. They are effective but they are certainly not innovative. I get it. Civilians die. It's pretty fucked if it's your relative or your city. Executions are scary. Torture is scary. Also I love how the western countries get to take the moral high ground, when if you look at modern history, they are not deserving of such high esteem. Anyways, the multiplayer is what really shines here. there are many new and exciting complex systems. I especially love how they've handled gun customization. Instead of having an ak74 and an ak47, for example, they let you shorten the barrel and change the ammo type. You can turn LMGs into assault riles, assault rifles into LMGs or SMGs, and SMGs into assault rifles if you choose the right attachments. This modularity is fantastic. The map design is great. Gun Fight is sooo much fun. Like really this game is spectacularly fun. Not to mention this game's new tech really shines through. The fidelity of animation, the texture resolution, and model resolution all make it feel more organic than any call of duty to date.
