Extraterrestrials appear in many video games in a variety of styles. Sometimes they're evil, sometimes they're benevolent, and sometimes they're very similar to humans.
Alternative blood is blood other than the usual red variety.
The Jiralhanae are called Brutes by the UNSC. As a result of the expulsion of the elites from the Covenant, they serve as the primary antagonists during the events of Halo 2 and 3.
Palette-swapping are sometimes used to denote the different strengths and abilities of your adversaries.
The comic relief is a character, other than the main character, who is meant to add humor and lighten the mood of the game. These characters are usually very dumb or very witty, and are usually very talkative.
Elites, also known as Sangheili are a Covenant race in the Halo series. During Halo: Combat Evolved and the bulk of Halo 2 they are the primary antagonists. They became semi allied with the humans in Halo 3, and are in a political crisis during Halo 4, some still at war with Humanity.
The Covenant Loyalists are a faction of the former Covenant Empire who still believe in the Empire's original goal of activating the Halo rings.
The Covenant ressurected after the war.
The Covenant Separatists is a group comprised of Elites, Hunters, and Grunts who learned the Truth about halo and have rebelled from the Covenant Empire.
Enemies who don't fight fair or flee when they're running low on health. Examples include Boos from Super Mario and those pesky goblins from Dark Messiah.
Sometimes, enemies will explode (usually when shot at) and will cause damage to the player.
A prolonged battle in the Human-Covenant war.
The Flood Combat Form, this form kills living creatures so the infection forms can obtain a new host.
The Basis of the Flood. It creates more combat and carrier forms as well as just food.
Fairly weak enemies (not specific characters) that go down in a couple shots or swings, but will keep coming in droves.
Henchmen are the loyal grunts caught in between the player and the main antagonist. Without them every game would be nothing more than a boss battle.
A character that deliberately destroys themselves in order to kill their enemies. This can be something like letting a grenade kill yourself and your enemy in a first person shooter.
When monsters in a game can turn on each other after an accidental injury and fight to the death instead of focusing on the player, or when some of the player's enemies also hate each other, and will attack each other on sight.
The permanent existence of one's body after death.
In video games Plasma is often used as a core ingredient in weapons due to its high temperature. Due to the amount of damage it can inflict it is effective against any type of target, whether organic or metallic
Prophets are the leaders caste of the alien conglomerate known as the Covenant. The top caste of the Prophets are called the Hierarch, and they are made up of three High Prophets.
A physics system used to procedurally generate body movement similar to rag dolls.
When the character blows itself up, inflicting damage, or when the character falls, flies, or is otherwise ejected from the arena by their own actions.
The phenomenon of an enemy who is heavily resistant to damage (or even invulnerable) everywhere on its body - except for its back.
Some minions will grow weary of constantly waiting for the protagonist, allowing said protagonist to sneak past the obstacles or catch them off guard.
Sticky grenades are a type of explosive that is thrown and sticks a surface such as the body of an enemy, thus making the explosive damage inescapable.
Enemies that are small, deal relatively low damage, and have low health, but make up for it by attacking in large numbers. Examples include Flood infection forms from Halo, Trites from Doom 3, or Crawlers from Resistance: Fall of Man.
A faction that splintered off from The Covenant and is primarily controlled and governed by The Brutes and their warmaster, Atriox. Unlike The Covenant they do not believe in The Great Journey, Only seeking conquest and revenge on the San'Shyuum and Humans.
An alien alliance consisting of several unique species that serves as one enemy in the Halo franchise.
The Covenant Civil War was an event in Covenant history which began in October 2552, with the Separatists, led by the Elites, breaking away from the Loyalists.
