I just got back from picking up my copy of the Collector's Edition for Dead Space 2. The promise on this thing was that you would get a replica plasma cutter, and in all of the pictures that you saw before the game's release, it showed a relatively good-sized replica. Now that I've got it...
...I mean, what the fuck is this? I don't think you could even shoot off a necromorph's dork with this thing...if it even HAD a dork!
The soundtrack comes in...a paper sleeve?! REALLY? You couldn't be bothered to put it in a case stronger than an eco-box?
The lithograph is...just a piece of paper? It's not even in some form of plastic sleeve?!
I understand that this is only $20.00 more than the regular edition, but after the AMAZINGNESS of the Halo: Reach Limited Edition...and Fallout 3...and New Vegas...and so many other packages, this just seems...well, fucking ridiculous.
I'd take a picture and upload it...but it's just too embarrassing to bother. So, does anyone else think this is a weak ass package overall?
Dead Space 2
Game » consists of 18 releases. Released Jan 25, 2011
Dead Space 2 is the sequel to the 2008 surprise hit Dead Space. The no-longer-silent Isaac Clarke finds himself trapped on a city-sized space station called the Sprawl, which has been overtaken by another Necromorph infestation.
Worst Collector's Edition Ever?!
Worst review and now worst collectors edition? =O I feel like I may need to start hiding Dead Space 2 copies in my attic WW2 style!
As for the collectors edition itself.. meh - it looks to have about the same amount useless tripe that most collectors/special/EPIC editions come with.

@Abyssfull: The Halo: Reach Limited Edition was goddamn great. Everything included in it was something to do with the history of Reach, and the diary was a great read. New Vegas had a great graphic novel with it. Hell, Fallout 3 had a fucking lunchbox! Hell, even the Dante's Inferno promo action figure for pre-orders was better...AND THAT'S A GAME MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY!
ALSO...NO CODE FOR DEAD SPACE IGNITION THAT I'VE FOUND YET!!!
Sorry for those following my blog. = /The plasma cutter model definitely ain't no gun size, but it isn't exactly a keyring size either. Didn't expect a crazy size for the price I paid anyway. I can leave it around as some little ornament in my room at least.

This is exactly what happens. I shouldn't have wasted time convincing people not to get this piece of shit." I watched an unboxing video this morning, holy shit did it look terrible. I've never been more relieved that I didn't buy something. Way to go EA. "
They did an unboxing for CE a while ago .. I think for $20 extra its a pretty okay CE.
Also, DeadSpace Ignition is a pre-order bonus and you should have been given the voucher when you placed your order - that is the mistake of whoever you bought it from.

Moreover, as I called the place I got it from, they stated "there's nothing we can do about that". Apparently, that shit was printed on the original receipt...for the pre-order...that I placed back in October. T_T

" buying a crappy 8 hour singleplayer game is one thing,, paying for its CE is another, you deserve what you got "So far, just the little bit I played of the single player, it's fucking boss...just like the first game was.
hey, don't complain. at least you got the game. that's luxurious way of complaining. steam users are now in trouble. they can't even activate it because of fucking system error. you have better situation than them. so be quiet, enjoy your game. I will get collector's edition tomorrow. I don't expect too much since I purchased several CE version before. why do people even whining after getting the game anyway? life is too good, huh? you know, complaining is all over the fucking places. never satisfy, huh?
Also, is there a "making of" in this edition?
"buying a crappy 8 hour singleplayer game is one thing,, paying for its CE is another, you deserve what you got "
I really hate this mentality of "game length = value" and it's the whole reason that every single game is shoe-horning in unnecessary multiplayer modes. It may "only" be 8 hours but if those 8 hours are really enjoyable, what's the problem? I'd rather spend 8 hours with a great single player game than 50 with another mediocre multiplayer FPS/third person shooter.
The CE is definitely pretty lame though and I do feel some developers are really trying to take advantage of their fans with them. Reminds me a lot of the Arkham Asylum once, which looked amazing in the pictures.. but the batarang ended up being made from a really cheap plastic and was basically the quality of something you'd expect from a McDonalds happy meal. Halo Reach and Anno 1404's are two of the very few CE's that I think really stand up as being excellent and clearly made for the fans of the franchises, rather than to rip off chumps.
Where is the plasma cutter in the picture?
Thanks for updating us on this.. I was thinking of buying it because of that plasma cutter (it looked to scale in pictures)..
Sorry for the disappoint. : /
Lame, now I wish I did not pre-order mine...and I have to wait until the 28th (stupid UK) Oh well. I spend more money on dumber things, Like the fact that I am getting 2 copys of the game a PC and 360.
" Where is the plasma cutter in the picture? Thanks for updating us on this.. I was thinking of buying it because of that plasma cutter (it looked to scale in pictures).. Sorry for the disappoint. : / "It's in the lower right, sitting on top of the actual game case.
@neoepoch: The game does indeed rip. I'll say that I already know I'll get $80 worth of gameplay out of the thing. I've been through the first Dead Space five times (need to finish the sixth for my Impossible difficulty and S-rank that hoe). I can see this easily being played that much. Man, there is some FUCKED UP shit in this game! lol I'm on Chapter 4 right now. Funny enough, I started my time on the game checking out the multiplayer since I didn't get in on the beta (360 didn't have it, of course). The Pack seems like a thoroughly OP unit type, but beyond that, it's a fucking frantic time in multiplayer. Definitely going to get into more of that.
@Gizmo: I typically do a fair amount of research on Collector's Editions and such before I plop money down. I looked for pictures, and the scale they showed that plasma cutter at seemed like it wasn't going to be a true-to-scale replica, but at least a little under it. There was a picture of a guy holding one with all his fingers around the grip. Guess we got fooled. I've bought plenty of Collector's Editions that had great swag in them for the extra $20. Alan Wake, Halo: Reach, and Fallout 3 are definitely the top ones for me. To be honest, I think I would've rather had some kind of comic book or something with this that gave even more backstory than they've already given this world. Alas, I've got a small crappy plasma cutter with a sticker that says "Made In China" on it. *le sigh*
...like every other collector's edition.
I think the only other Collector's Edition I've looked at so far is the Nano Edition of Crysis 2. Speaking of which, that multiplayer demo totally came out today as well as Bulletstorm. Fuck, I've got a long week of game-playing between Dead Space 2, those demos, and League of Legends. UGH!
