A tiny shuffle in the right direction. 0

EA have apparently turned themselves around with Dead Space that has been called by some the 'Scariest game ever' is it? No.Dead Space never really scared me and in fact it barely made me feel tense, this was due to the fact that the tactics they used to scare were repeated over and over again throughout the game the main one being walking past something that looks dead only for it to jump up and attack you, whilst this perhaps made me a little jumpy at the start, eventually it became a sort of ...

Survival Horror at it's finest with some mind blowing moments 0

After Resident Evil 4, I felt a little hole in my heart... I wanted more of that experience. When Dead Space was announced, I was like "F*CK YEAH!!!" while others were disappointed at the fact it is Resident Evil 4 in space. It's out and I gotta say... It is one hell of a game. Generally speaking, as far as horror games go, this isn't the scariest. While it had its moments, horror is not the strong point. Dead Space's highlights are it's combat, the fact that cutscenes unseemingly move into ...

It’s always interesting when a big publisher like EA decides to create a new intellectual property. It’s not often that they do it, and it always seems to turn out one of two ways: awful or amazing. The good news is that you can count Dead Space in the amazing category, as everything the game does it does well. Dead Space is a sci-fi survival horror game that takes place aboard the USG Ishimura, a “planetcracker” mining ship. It appears that in the future, Earth is disparately low on resources. ...

A shining beacon for original games creation 1

Dead Space ReviewDead Space is a survival horror game set in space, or to be more specific, aboard the intergalactic mining ship USG Ishimura. An original intellectual property from Electronic Arts this game draws from previous conventions in the survival horror genre and moulds them into something that is quite frankly a beautiful sight to behold.PlotYou play as Isaac Clarke a intergalactic ship engineer who is travelling on the shuttle USG Kellion in order to repair the damaged space craft USG...

This game is absolutely fabulous. 0

I loved RE4 and this game has a lot in common with the playstyle.  I like the upgrade system, the graphics are good enough that nothing ever stood out, the atmosphere was great for keeping up the suspense\thriller mood of the game.  The game was very fun to play, the bosses were fun, the achievements are not hard to get if you don't mind multiple playthroughs (i will need 3 total for all achievements, 2 on normal and 1 on impossible).  With that said, I had fun both times I went through the game...

The Best Looking Way to Die 0

At this point, we've pretty much seen all we can see from the survival horror genre. If you like the games, you'll love Dead Space. This game is easily the most polished survival horror game on the market. The visuals are amazing, and EA really struck gold by losing the HUD. The audio does a great job of enhancing the atmosphere  (or lack thereof) in the game, pulling you deeper into the madness. There may be more and a few parts (namely shooting space debris) that will have you screaming angril...

Buy extra underwear. You're gonna need it. 0

"Dead Space" is a masterfully executed, freakishly thrilling survival horror action game that looks, plays and feels like your worst nightmare (in a good way). Suffice it to say I had no idea what I was in for when I started this game. I assumed it'd be a cheap rip-off of "Resident Evil 4," based on the similarity of its camera system and the fact that it was created by EA. My assumption couldn't have been more wrong. Instead of a rip-off, "Dead Space" is an incredibly innovative title that in ...

    A gruesomely immersive experience. 0

Good stuff:The sound design is brilliant. While walking through the dark corridors you'll hear the distant roars of monsters, eerie singing and ominous crying. The screaming of a Necromorph jumping out of a nearby air vent is accompanied by a suitable crescendo, only to be replaced by an unpleasant silence when you've reduced it to a pile of bloody limbs. The roars Isaac let out while desperately flailing his arms, to fend off bloodthirsty monsters are really believable, and the screams in the b...

Necromorphs. I *hate* those guys. The boss battles look amazing, that much is certain. Fighting the hivemind as it reared it's ugly... head?... a dozen stories into the air while an enormous chunk of the planet burned its way through the atmosphere above made me grin. "Awesome," I said to myself. It was a sight to behold, but I was also grinning because I knew this meant that I was just about done with Dead Space. I was ready for that too. It's a fun game. The "strategic dismemberment" mechanic ...

    Excellent horror-themed game. 0

The horror genre has always been overlooked, sure some games happen to emerge every now and then, but I find that the theme could be a lot more well explored. With the advancement of graphical capabilities, lightning and sound effects the tools for creating creepy atmospheres and gruesome stories also advanced. Dead Space is not exactly your average horror game, but does the job nicely in constructing and maintaining a continuous atmosphere of solitude and suspense. Here you play as a guy named ...

so is dead space scary?...no not at all..but it does do a hell of a job at being suspenceful..there was no time at all where i jumped or was afraid to go through a door, but i did find myself constently checking my ammo and health before i enter a room..the game does a great job at making you do those kinds of things..and the anticipation of what is behind the next door or room is what sets the mood for this game.the mood for this game is DARK..very rarly do you see a room fully lit..and if that...

    Dead Space 0

Dead space plays like a typical survival horror game. You start in a new area, you are given a quest (open door, find an item, etc), destroy the monsters and move on. EA has really done their homework in regards to what works and what does not in this genre. You never feel like you are underpowered or over powered at any point in the game. You have to manage supplies and ammo but you are never at a point where you can’t get more. Monsters are tuff to defeat but never feel impossible to deal with...

    The best new franchise 0

So I started out with Dead Space getting it because I needed something to play after I sold the terrible Midnight Club: Los Angeles but when I got into it I found it to be one of the best and most immersive game in years. This game is so great because it takes many of Resident Evil's traits like the great scares, over-the-shoulder aiming, great graphics, and many other games and improves on them in every way possible. The scares for one are better than that of RE 5, the aiming and shooting is al...

Great for as long as it lasts... 0

First of all, this is one of the most terrifying experiences you will have.  I did not say it was the scariest game because it goes beyond that.  It's an experience.  I'm the kind of person that appreciates a good back story (I'm one of those weirdos that reads the manual before playing the game), and EA have created an impressive universe around this game that greatly contributes to the experience. The mechanics will seem familiar to most gamers (a third person, over the shoulder view where one...

A newly made horror classic 0

Dead Space is an amazing new IP from EA.  The third person view from the right takes a little getting use to, but once you do, it feels just right.  The necromorphs are a legitimately menacing enemy, and there are moments in the game when I was actually scared while fighting them off, or just plain running away from them.  The environment is beautiful and creepy, and a picturesque scifi setting.  I found the plot to be intriquing, and I was sad when the game ended, because I wanted some more nec...

Waiting for Dead SPace 2: Dead Spacer 0

While waiting for this game to come out, I intended to amp up my excitement by playing Silent Hill: Homecoming. So, I went to my local Gamestop and bought a copy of Silent Hill: Homecoming. After trudging halfway through the game, I realized that this wasn’t amping up anything but unadulterated disgust for the game. With that being said, I bought my copy of Dead Space after selling Silent Hill to some unsuspecting kid on my college campus…It sounds terrible, I know, but I needed to get that ...

Dead Space is a solid 1 player game, and nothing else! 0

Dead Space was the first original, new, creative IP for EA and the Xbox 360. In a time of numbered squeals dominating the charts, Dead space was considered a departure for EA, showing us that doing something new and creative can still yield decent, if not pretty good results! You start out as Isaac Clarke, our silent hero and crew heading for a distressed “Planet Cracker” orbital mining vessel. The story is nothing new for sci-fi or horror fans, yet is suitable and does a decent job of keeping y...

Silent Protagonist IsaacDead Space was put out at the forefront of EA's attempts to bring  some new IPs out and while at first it seemed like a standard survival horror game it quickly picked up steam. Bio-Thing-Horror Game? 0

Long ago, survival horror games were essentially a 3rd person action romp with poor controls, lack of ammo, and slow moving zombies always skittering about in the unlikeliest of places. While survival horror games are now turning into the shock schlock that many slasher movies have already perfected, spatter porn and all, there is no denying that the sense of terror, of pure dread, is craved by fans. Sure, Resident Evil and Silent Hill have grown up, and Fatal Frame is such a niche game to p...

    A great atmospheric horror. 0

The success of the Horror genre has led to some truly scary games over the past 20 years, from Alone in the Dark to Resident Evil. However, despite maintaining the horror elements, there has been very little in the way of innovation until Resident evil 4 pulled the horror genre kicking and screaming into the 21 century from the old, but still overused, idea of stiff controls, awkward camera angles and overused clichés. Dead Space isn’t a game that offers the same innovative strides, instead it ...

2008 was actually a pretty good year for IP. 360's best IP, by most accounts, was this title. Dead Space is published by EA, who is, simultaneously, the most innovative AND repetitive of developers. In Dead Space, you're engineer Isaac Clarke who is trying to locate his missing love on a basically-dead spaceship. When you and your party land, you learn that the ship is laden with aliens who are mean and, in a bit of a change, a bit resistant to head shots. To kill most of them, a head sh...

Hi, I am Sid.  This is my first review on this site, so if you have any comments please make them known to me and I shall take them into account and make my next review to your tastes...if this was a perfect world.  Dead Space is produced by Electronic Arts, who I haven’t trusted due to their shoddy name being used to sell shoddy games…such as every James Bond tie-in game after Goldeneye, which is still, in my opinion, the greatest film-tie in video game ever.   But why am I talking about my vi...

I did not play Dead Space when it first came out, primarily because my pile of unfinished games was already large enough at the time of its release. While the reason for not playing it is probably as true today as it was then the game is now easy to pick up cheap (without having to go second hand) and as I had heard so may good things about it I decided to see if they were all true, and I am happy to report that they are! From the start of the game the presentation is stunning and the game play...

If you like survival-horror, third-person shooters, or brutally killing undead aliens, this game is for you. Dead Space delivers a horrific experience while at the same time allowing you to play the way you want. There are a multitude of weapons and nearly unlimited ways to upgrade them, so that any player can find their niche. With Dead Space 2 out and my copy still in the mail, I thought it would be a good idea to run through the game that got the franchise its start to get me back up to speed before plunging into the very well-received sequel (with an average rating of 90 from 73 critics on Metacritic).  I only played through the game once when I originally purchased it, and that was a couple years ago, so playing through it again was a relatively fresh experience.  For this review, I decided to go at it on Impossib...

Initially Dead Space looks like any other game in the survival horror genre. It's only after shooting away the limbs you can truely see what makes this game so unique. The game puts you in the boots of engineer Issac Clarke who has been sent along with his small team in response to a distress call projected by the industrial 'planet-cracker', The USG Ishimura. The intro to the game sets the tone perfectly, leaving you as clueless and unaware to the horrors that await, as the characters themselves...

His main goal throughout the game is to find the whereabouts of his girlfriend. At the same time, he must battle horrific mutated creatures called necromorphs. They're not your average zombie, as a headshot won't keep them down. Dismembering all their limbs? That should do the trick. Dead Space is a scary game. The lighting, sound, and pacing blend perfectly together to create an experience unlike any other, even when it's clear that EA has aped a few of the design mechanics. The control scheme, for example, shares a number of elements with Capcom's RE4, while the audio logs and ruined environment reek of Bioshock. The genius of Dead Space comes when players realize that the game has come together to be so much more than the sum of its parts.Let's get this out of the way as ...

Equivalent To: Alien vs Predator (PC) but better!! 0

Dead Space is good, really really good.  The game is plain fun to play.  If it weren't for a few setbacks in game design and story, this could have been epic.  Dead Space starts off well.  The UI design choices and the amount of immersion they are trying to go for works.  There is no HUD, your important information (life bar and stasis bar) are on the back of your suit.  The menus are all done in game and real time.  The graphics are great and the atmosphere works.  However all is not well in...

It was supposed to be just a routine job. A maintenance team was sent to the space station USG Ishimura, but communications were down. After an accident the team find themselves trapped aboard the space station, where something hellish has been set loose and they must cling to survival.             If you just read the above paragraph out of context it would be hard to know what it is that you’re reading about. From Event Horizon to Doom 3, Dead Space borrows many elements of other Sci-Fi plots....

Dead Space is easily one of the best new franchises in recent memory, and this coming from a guy who doesn’t like survival horror.   The fiction, while not terribly original, lays the foundation for what could easily become a game release that sees many sequels, and only gets better with time. Let's first start off with the standard immersion factor of this game's interface design. In one word, it is incredible.         Dead Space is an action adventure - survival horror video game released back on 14 October 2008.
